I think most planters if not all will do this just by changing out the seed plate.

Like blueriver said, almost any planter will plant corn and beans. Lots of planters out there by John Deere, Ford, IH, MF, Cole, Yetter etc. You would likely want a 1-row or two row planter. I personally like my JD 71.

This sweet corn patch was planted with my TC-18 and my single row Cole 12 MX with a row spacing of 32 inches..

Yes, they were all pretty much designed to plant those, and many other seeds/crops by just changing out the seed plate. I rebuilt these JD 70 Flexi planters. BTW have a couple for sale if you're interested. Mark

Keep your eyes open for an older JD planter like a 290 (pull type) or 246 (3-point). If you are lucky, you might find one that still has the fertilizer attachments working. That is a big advantage because applying fertilizer only on the rows will save you megabucks on plots compared to broadcasting as must be done with the 71's. Fertilizer is the biggest expense with corn or beans since discounted or free seed is relatively easy to obtain, but no one gives fertilizer away these days. The 290/246 also typically sell for significantly less than the 71's.

I usually do it with a no-till drill, but two row planters are both much cheaper and more plentiful. Around here you can get a good one for around $700 or $800. Got my drill used and it was over 10x that.

Could also get "good enuf for deer" results with a disk, whirly bird spreader, and a cultipacker.

Look on eBay for row planters. I have a JD71 2-row planter. Cost $1K.

All ag planters will do both. You prob just need a two row planter and they can be purchased very reasonable. There are several different metering systems available and I would suggest you look for one with the planter plates. You can still purchase the new plates for many models of planter, but you have to know exactly what you are planting as there are many sizes and seed spacing options available. If you are just putting in a couple acres every year, a set of plates should last a very long time. Think new they run around 25 bucks each for plates.
