Small problem, but one I need to solve. On My BX2230, I just saw the cap to the coolant reserevoir is gone. Does anyone have a good DIY replacement? I don't even want to think what I'm gonna have to do to get one from a dealer. Maybe have to buy a whole new bottle for fifty bucks. Would a piece of plastic bag and a rubber band just be asking for trouble? How airtight would this thing have to be?

I think i used duct tape once as a temporary fix until I got a new bottle; a plastic bag might melt. Didn’t have any issues.

The coolant reservoir is never under pressure. Your best bet (short of buying a new jug and cap and tubing) is to hunt around until you find a plastic cap with threads that will mate onto the top of the jug. Some gallon oil jugs might fit, some antifreeze jugs might, etc. Once you find a cap that will screw on to the jug, get some fresh overflow hose (auto parts store) that will reach from the outlet on the radiator just under the cap to the bottom of jug. Cut it to that length and install with good airtight fit at the radiator. Drill right size hole in the plastic cap & insert the new hose through that hole into the jug. Keep in mind the jug is only there to catch overflow out of the radiator when pressure exceeds the rating of the cap. When the engine cools off, the overflown liquid will be sucked back into the radiator.

These are NOT like some automobiles (VW for example) where the jug is part of the pressurized cooling system. Our BX2200 series jugs are not under pressure.

If it was a snap on cap like PTSG showed, the cap may have been part of a recall. Some of those caps didn't have the hole to vent them to the hose. The OPs tank does look like it had a threaded cap though.

Yes his picture does show a threaded cap and I work on 2 BX2200s both having threaded caps.
