Hey all,
Looked under the hood of my tractor the other day and noticed the coolant level was about 1/2" below the min mark. Went into my manual and saw FGCC2701DS for the P/N and after some research noticed that the P/N was superseded by CC2820. I researched this and the fluid I have now is Green while it looks like the CC2820 is not. It is either clear or blue.. not sure by the google pictures. I have some O'Reilly Universal Antifreeze & Coolant (green stuff) laying around the house that is Water, Ethylene Glycol, Corrosion Inhibitors, Defoamer, and Dye. I'm not sure what I should do? Is it a big deal if I top it off with this stuff? It is prediluted 50/50. I just need a little bit but I dont know if I should mix the two or drain and refill with the SPEC stuff, which I cant find locally for some reason. Can I keep operating the tractor with the coolant 1/2" below the min line or should I keep it off until resolved?

You can run it indefinitely as is. You can also top it off with what you have, which is what I would do.

Indefinitely? I am guessing as long as it has some level of coolant close to the line it’s not a big deal?

It’s a recovery tank. The cooling system (radiator, engine block, cylinder head, water pump) is full of coolant. The recovery tank receives coolant from the other components as it expands and retains it to be drawn back as the system cools. Recovery tanks are a latecomer to liquid cooling system design, intended to keep extra coolant from being drained out on the ground where it went for the first 100 years.

Your existing fluid is probably ethylene glycol based. Many tractors are still using it. You might check with your dealer or shop to see if yours is among them. That type antifreeze is usually colored in the green or yellow spectrum. It is poisonous if consumed so many auto manufacturers have discontinued it. I believe they use a propylene glycol solution and I do not believe it is recommended to mix the two types. Newer automotive antifreeze is frequently red or orange in color. Having antifreeze in your catch tank indicates your radiator is still full.

Thanks guys! I’m in Maine so I won’t add more water, I’ll leave as is for now!

As has been mentioned, do not mix different coolant types. When you are due for a coolant change there are many better coolant types available than the standard green.
I don't trust the "mixes with all coolant types" that some manufacturers claim, and always do a complete flush.

Once you get a known extended life coolant into your machine, life becomes much simpler. I have most of my machinery and vehicles using Zerex G05, which is a 5 year HOAT coolant.

I will have to look at the manual. Bought it with 420 hrs on it now has 441 so I will check when it says and flush it at that interval.

If you are not sure what is in the system for coolant I would NOT add anything.
the following is from a Valvoline web site; Engine Coolant – Choosing the Right Type for Your Car | Valvoline™<br />

The Colors of Coolant

You might be thinking, “What color is antifreeze? What color is Dex-Cool®?” It’s true, coolant liquid comes in different colors, most commonly green (orange for Dex-Cool®). Each color is a unique formula that should not be mixed. The below chart will help you decipher which fluid is in your vehicle. Reminder, you can often find the recommended type of coolant in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
TYPE INHIBITOR TECHNOLOGY ZEREX COOLANT VEHICLES COLOR
IAT (Inorganic Additive Technology) Silicates Zerex™ Original Older Vehicles GREEN
OAT (Organic Acid Technology) Organic Acids Zerex™ Dex-Cool® GM, Saab, VW ORANGE
HOAT (Hybrid OAT) Silicates & Organic Acids Zerex™ G-05™ Ford, Chrysler, European YELLOW
HOAT (Hybrid OAT, Phosphate-free) NAP Free ZEREX™ G-48 BMW, Volvo, Tesla, Mini, others TURQUOISE
P-HOAT (Phosphated HOAT) Phosphates & Organic Acids ZEREX™ Asian Vehicle Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, KIA & other Asian vehicles PINK / BLUE
Si-OAT (Silicated HOAT) Silicates & Organic Acids ZEREX™ G-40 Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW, Porsche, others PURPLE

I have spent a lot of time cleaning the coling system on a couple of cars for my daughters after coolants got mixed.
If any doubt about whats in drain, flush a couple of times untill all trace of previous coolant is gone and refill with what you prefer that meets or exceeds the manufactures requirements.
