Hey guys,

First off let me say that with your help I have been able to get my BX23 backhoe mounted on my tractor, and hooked up with hydraulics. The pump and other information you have given me is top notch.

However, I have run into a potentially big problem. It seems as if the guy I bought the backhoe off of necklected to tell me that it was in a fire:(.

So as a result, the control valves weap a little and some of the cylinders have fluid that just runs out of them. I think i can get the cylinder parts at a local shop if i take them in. I am a little afraid about the control valves being junk though.....

Any info would be great.

Thanks

The actual high-pressure sealing in the spool valve is done by a lapped fit of the spool in the valve body. There may be O-rings that keep dust out-but they really do not hold any pressure. Find a local hydraulic shop and they can get all the seals and O-rings you'll need-or just get them to rebuild everything and test it.

Sounds like the seals may be melted and or warped..Check out the hoses too, although they are pretty much buried. I've never priced replacing any of the cylinders or the control valve, but the BH was around 5k new. So rebuilding is the best option.

Watch the hydo fluid level if you have leaks...Don't want the HST running low, now that would be an expensive and painful mistake!!!

Good luck!!! The previous owner should have let you in on this...I'm hoping for your sake the BH was removed and in the fire area while the tractor was somewhere else?:eek:

Yeah I am guessing that those seals are probably melted. I only bought the backhoe as the tractor was nowhere to be found. I later found out they had both burnt and he had someone sand blast and repaint the backhoe for him. They replaced all the lines, (which were all hooked up wrong), and they must have never bothered to check the cylinders.

I will check with some local shops to see about pricing of redoing the valve o-rings and the cylinder seals.

Are you shure it is the spool in the control valve leaking. Could it be orings on the pressure releif or hose fittings.

I'm with you now...Not so bad then...Just some general rebuilds.
