Guys,

I bought a 20' Container a while back.

I'm finishing the interior.

I got a good deal on a limited amount of primered MDF grooved paneling - Kind of like you normally see in a "Country type kitchen".

Since I had a limited amount I created installed that up to 4' high on the walls.

I'm trying to complete the walls as cheaply as possible. My Original plan was then to put Norboard ($6.88 a sheet) for the top portion. I have seen people put this in their Garages and then put a topcoat of varnish on it and it looks really nice.

My questions for you are as follows:

#1 - If I go with the Norboard, I don't want to sand off those lines - There's some black writing on the other side - Does that Sand off fairly easily?

#2 - I had considered going with some kind of light colored wood paneling instead. That would cost more, but it'd be easier/lighter to install. I wouldn't have to varnish it. I'm concerned though about how it'd look have the narrow lines of the MDF and then the wider lines of paneling though. Any thoughts?

#3 - I also considered going with corrugated metal - You see that used alot in restaurants. But it'd cost too much - I don't want to mess with Drywall - Any other Ideas?

Just a couple of thoughts/questions.

1. I don't know anything about containers -- how are you fastening the paneling or whatever to the container walls?

2. How are you going to be using the container? Storage? A shop? A place to hide from the Missus?:)

3. Depending on the planned usage, pegboard might be an alternative.

4. I've never tried to sand OSB, but it shouldn't be a problem.

5. Although you say you don't want to mess with drywall, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle with such a small area.

6. Are you going to put in a ceiling?

Thanks for the feedback Steve.

The use is a break room / retreat area to get out of the Sun and rest.

I'm securing to 2 x 4s that I framed in to make a wall.

Peg board is a neat idea, but I'm looking for a Western/rustic feel.

Yes, I'm putting in a ceiling, but I'm not sure what it will be yet. Don't want to do a drop ceiling as there's no room as it is.

A few more thoughts.

1. I just noticed that you are in Florida. Are you insulating the walls and ceiling? Are you going to have A/C? It's going to be mighty hot, especially with a metal roof.

2. Exterior wood lap or drop siding would give you a rustic look, but I'm not sure how it would look with beadboard wainscoting. If you could find an old house or barn that is being demolished, you might be able to recycle the siding.

Thanks

Yes, I insulated with Blueboard.

I have a small airconditioning unit that cools it pretty well :)
