I'm considering a Kubota M9000. Current owner isn't sure of the year 2000-2003, 1400 hours, with loader (Euro-style quick attach), cast rims, and power shuttle. I haven't seen it in person yet but sounds like the rear tires are pretty well used up, fronts seem to have already been replaced. Otherwise says it in good shape. I've read that the clutch on these can be trouble and the AC units don't impress many folks.

Anything else I should be on the lookout for? Hoping to have a look at it on Saturday.

I'm in western PA, any guesses on a fair price for this if it's in good shape?

Thanks

Would be worth having a mechanic look it over, short money for the piece of mind. That’s a lot of orange ! Good luck, enjoy it !

@groundcover- That's not a bad idea, but it's 2+ hours from me. I don't have anyway to haul it and don't know any mechanics near the machine. Would you normally hire someone local or try to bring someone you trust with you?

look @ the clutch wear/pedal travel, esp since it's a power shuttle requiring clutch use. yes, good idea to have an impartial mechanic look at it. good luck

Either way, wonder if there is a dealer near him that could survey it, mention you may want them to go through it to make it 100% , that may peek their interest.

I have a M6800, bought it in 99. Look at tractordata.com and see if they can not tell you the year by the serial number. No idea on the A/C as my is open but 1400 is low hours. Then I have only about half that on mine. You can call a local to you Kubota dealer and ask them these questions but if near by I would visit their shop manager if possible but you are going tomorrow so may not be possible. Try you do an internet search using that model and such problems with or such. The only issue I have had with my M6800 have been with transmission, I do not think they hold up as well for hour after hour of pulling hard as in disking. Hey ask him who services the tractor if him ask if keeps records but if dealership ask who and give them a call if you are interested in the tractor. But if is fine to ask to see the tractor work and try it yourself.

Thanks for the input. I had a chance to look it over in person. It's in good shape. No drips or leaks. Didn't want to start because the battery was dead. Not sure if there are charging problems or not, but we jumped it and it started right up. Shifts through all the gears smoothly, PTO works, loader is good. All in all it looks like a good machine. It's got a few knocks against it for my use. It's kinda far away, which means I need to figure in the cost and hassle of trucking it (not that big a deal). The rear tires (loaded) need replacing. I think this will cost about $1800. I plan to use it as a hay tractor, but it has a bucket only and it's NOT SSQA so the bale spear I already own won't work. And finally, it's old. Seller says it's 2000 or 2001. I know Kubota's hold their value but in 10 years and another 1500 hours what will it be worth? Would I be better off buying something more expensive and newer (like this: TractorHouse.com | 213 CASE IH FARMALL 75C For Sale) if I want to move on from it in 10 years?

Seller is asking $27,500 for a good machine that's 15 years old with 1500 hours that's in need of rear tires. I still haven't figured out of that's a good deal or not. At $20,000 I know I'd be interested. At $30 I know I wouldn't be. Anyone have thoughts?

to me that's way too high. as mentioned, check current prices on the market for the model. another way would be to get Kubota insurance's value on it to insure. call them, say you are considering that model & what value they'd cover it for. bet ktac values it 10k below asking price

my '08 M8540 hyd shuttle/hd transmission is currently by kubota insurance valued at exactly the asking price of your M9000. sounds like a great machine, but way too much money given what you'll have to do to get it up to speed.

That's a lot of money for that tractor and he won't see that number from many people. Granted, it's just a prior model from the current M7060 and prior M7040 but they don't usually bring that much. The EURO loader is a big negative but you can buy adaptors to convert. As noted, the A/C sucks. The cast rear wheel are a big plus and there's a question on the clutch. Is it dry or hydraulic shuttle? The hydraulic clutches rarely break while the dry one have some issues.

These were good tractors that rarely have a problem but they are light and need weight. I, too dislike fluid and only use cast. Likely your rear wheels will be rotten, regardless of the fluid used to fill. My M6800 had washer fluid and rusty rims and I've done threads about it.

If it's the power shuttle it should be the wet clutch. I've driven dry clutch / syncro shuttle M9000 and wet clutch / hyd shuttle M6800. Can't see how the tires would be junk in 1400 hours. I noticed the dry clutch tractors (at least ROPS) had "utility special" and wet clutch had "hydraulic shuttle" stickered over the "utility special"

Euro coupler is a bonus, what model of loader? M loaders were Alo Quicke painted orange and L loaders were Kubota built.

That price would be fair here...if in CDN money!
