The 1635 is a popular tractor, but the 2638 has about same HP (2 more), but is considerably heavier to facilitate a lot more work. Larger (and safer) lifting capacity, larger cu ft bucket than the 1635, wider tires, a little taller, and the same price.

I was looking for a 25'ish HP tractor, and dealer showed me the 2538 (2638 is newer model of 2538) and pointed out all of the above differences and more, and I'm sure glad I chose the 2538.

And no DEF, or regen required.

Just my opinion, and experience with 1080 hours on mine.

Actually, they added some nice features on the 2638 that I don't have on my 2538.

Added a suspension seat, plus cup holder and power point on the right fender. Same power train as mine, same dash layout, tires, etc.

Tires on the 2638 are wider than the 1635, especially on the front. Reduces ruts when mowing. I also like the higher capacity bucket.

I would check out a spec sheet. I will agree the numbers on the 2638 are more but I don’t think it is that so much as to push you totally to the 2638. There are a few videos on YouTube of the differences. I have the older model 1533 but I use a 2665 at work almost daily. The big differences that I can see in the series (not based on the sizes of the two I drive just the series) is fit and finish and operators position. I will say I think the fit and finish is better on the 15 or 16 series. Big difference there i think is who builds the tractor for mahindra. 16 series is done by Mitsubishi the 26 is tym. I may have wrinkled some feathers with this but it is just my opinion so take it as that. If I was in the market for a new one again I would still go with a Mitsubishi made one after driving the one at work. What ever you decide on you will probably be happy with. The warranty is the same for both.

The 15/16xx is a Mitsubishi tractor with a Mahindra engine. The 25/26xx is a TYM tractor with a Mahindra engine. I have the 15xx and have enjoyed it. The Mitsubishi seems to have had fewer issues and is sort of the “premium” model. While the 25/26xx is the workhorse model-Kinda like Kubota L series- bear bones.
I see and hear about very few engine issues. A few folks have knocked an oil filter off in heavy brush but I haven’t seen many other issues.

I noticed (by internet pics) the 26xx has the old turn buckles on 3 pt and 16xx has the newer style adjusters like my kubota but I dont think either have a ratchet style leveler fot 3pt like mine correct me if I am wrong

Forgot to mention the engine being a mahindra. Thanks for adding that. I will say I haven’t had my 1533 that long. The 2665 cab we have at work had belts and hoses go soon after we got it. One of the things I like on the Mitsubishi models is the hood and side panels are one piece and have an assisted opening. The 2665 has a hood and side panels. I have never liked the hood catch on it. It is a bit tricky to get it to stay up if the loader is down. Side panels are also a bit tricky to put back on with the loader down. This is probably me being me and being picky. I also like the joystick position better on the 1533 since I am a short dude. This maybe different on the 2638 but I know the radiator screen on the 2665 is an absolute pain to get out and back in. The placement of a wire loom makes it very hard. The operators platform on the 2665 is very comfortable besides the long reach to the joystick for me. I could not find the video I was referring to. But Henry Skinner does a lot of video’s on the line for people that are customers of his. I do believe the tractor frame size changed from the 1533 to the 1635. Some else may know better on that. I believe the 1533 and 1538 used to share the same frame but the 1635 and 1640 do not. Like I said that maybe wrong. I bought one of the last 1533’s the dealer had because of the deal to get it off the lot. I had them switch the seat to the newest version for the arm rests. I was looking at the 1626 but decided to upgrade. Looking back the only thing I would have done differently is get a cab northern NY can be cold in the winter. The 2665cab heat is nice to have. I do miss the telescope lower arms on my 1533’s 3 point. I believe the 1635 has them. I am pretty sure the 2638 has them. Don’t get me wrong I think the 26 series is a nice tractor. This is just what I have noticed or seen myself.

Obviously, we all like our own particular tractors. I'm not trying to persuade you into buying the 2600 series over the 1600 series. Just thought you might want to do a little more comparison on your own before you pull the trigger.

If you don't need to do any HD work with the FEL, or 3 pt & PTO, then the 1600 series would probably be fine for you. I've just learned over my lifetime that something always comes up where I wish I had the heavier tractor. I ended up doing a lot more FEL work than I anticipated, and the larger cube bucket on the 2600 series makes a big difference for me. Maybe not needed for you, but for me it's great.

Good Luck.
