It seems that the 5000 series John Deere has a problem with weak brake piston pull off springs. The springs have a history of weakening allowing brakes to drag. I have noticed that several folks in other threads said they removed the springs. Some folks said that a John Deere mechanic told them to do this.
What purpose do the springs serve? It seems they only cause folks problems. What are the consequences of removing the springs? Will the tractor function properly without the springs? Any long term consequences? Anyone have experience with this?
The symptoms of the spring problem as described by some are:
"a draggy clutch".
" seems like the parking brake is on"
"When I depress the clutch the tractor stops as if I had the brakes on."
Thanks,
