Hey guys I got an estimate today on a 25x30 4" parking pad. The ground is level and easy to access. The guy came buy getting business for his and his sons company. This guy is in his 80's and just drives around and sells jobs 2 or 3 days a week or so he says.

His price quote was 3700 for the job. The estimate on concrete was 10 yards and that came out to about $1000. $2700 in labor sounds awful high to me. Level ground, easy to grade and frame and get the concrete to it??? Thoughts????

Thanks
Wade

270 a finished yard is very high. Its about 200 to 225 here depending on the prep and psi rating.

did it include creating any kind of base or machine work (excavation, spreading, etc)?

Shop around, you never know the going rate until you find out what others are charging. Of course, the best is going to charge more because he can get it and there will be a wait for them to get to you. When I was looking around for guys to spread and level the concrete for my parents house, I got prices from a buck down to .50 cents a square foot. I built the forms and set the rebar, they just showed up and made the concrete look nice. They where there about six hours. I went with the guy who wanted .50 cents a square foot.

It is about $3.50/ft^2 X 6" here. That includes compacting, base gravel spreading and againg compacting, rebars foot on center, chairs, framing, conrete delivered and pumping. Cost of gravel and ground leveling not included.

Looks like Ohio and CT have about the same prices. Labor for a small pour like that would run you about $80 - $100 a yard around here.

Thanks guys. The price was for everything. He said nothing about rebar but did say he includes fiberglass. I guess that is in the mix???

This guy just happened to stop by. He wanted to estimate my 1100' driveway. No wat I could afford that so I did not get an estimate. I have 2 more people right now. I was both of their kids basketball coach so maybe they will cut me "some" slack....

The last concrete work I had done was a bit different from most residential work I have seen. The guy actually used a vibrator which I have never seen in residential work. He had a commercial concrete background. http://www.concreteconstruction.net/images/Concrete Vibration_tcm45-341602.pdf Vibrstrike Concrete Vibrator _ New York_ « Biordi Conctruction Less likely to have concrete popping off or weak voids if you have it vibrated.

I guess I am saying you can have a bubba install or a pro install and you might not know the difference. Or you could get 3 bids and they are all bubba installs.
