one half of my barn is gravel and not a pad. I would like to finish the other side with concrete. I first need to get this approved by the banking finance department of the family (my better half) the way I calculated I would need just over 10 yards to pour a 47 by 14 foot pad. I know that the area you live in depend on cost of concrete but I was seeing if anyone has ballpark figures on the cost for delivered concrete. I have some help who can help me put the pad in so I am only figuring material cost.

It also depends on what you get, extra crete, fibermesh etc..
A ballpark figure for standard mix would be $75 a yard.

I'm in a different part of the country, but I did pour a driveway a month ago.

$66 a yard for 5 yards.

Contractors rates vary from $59 down to $55 a yard.

In Green Bay, it is around $55/yard. 60 miles north, it jumps to $75/yard. I asked why so much difference, and I was told " there is no competition up here". What does it cost to get into the concrete making business these days? Is there a business opportunity here?

Around here it runs about $70-$75/yard retail. I usually try to hook up with whomever has the municipal contracts for curb and sidewalk replacement and heve them order for me. The municipality actually puts the bids out for labor and concrete separately so the concrete suppliers get pretty competative on that. It's all 4000 lb. test (and gets tested regularly, at least one time per load). I can save quite a bit doing it this way even after I slip the contractor something for making the phone call over and above the cost of the concrete.

If you do this, one thing of which you need to be careful is making certain the mixer driver brings enough chute extensions for you. They don't need much for curbs and sidewalks so may only have a couple onboard. That could translate into a lot of wheelbarrow work. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I suggest you call several companies - just look in yellow pages - they will give you the per yard cost. Sometimes you get a small price break by ordering a full load - I think a full load was - the last time I ordered some here - 9 yards. There may also be a surcharge if they have to come very far, and there could be a "wait time" charge if you don't take the concrete off the truck within a certain amount of time - I don't recall what the amount of time they give you before that kicks in. It could be entirely different where you are. but a few calls and you will be able to get all of the info you need. Don't forget to have the right people and tools available when the concrete is delivered and consult with someone who knows if you should have re-bar, or wire or whatever used as well. Please note that I am not an expert, so if you get different information from someone who is experienced, rely on them instead of this information. The above reflects my last experiences with concrete deliveries.

greenthumb,

Out here we have different rates for the weekend versus the weekdays. If I'm going to pour on the weekend it'll cost around $70.00 per yard while during the week it's about $55.00. This is for your basic concrete or exposed aggregate mix nothing too fancy.

I just paid 89/yd for 5 sack u-cart redi-mix here on the central coast of california not known for low prices. That price includes the use of the trailer for an hour or so. The rebar, wire and spacers for a 10x10 pad were probably another 20-25 dollars.

I would consider that the high end of the price curve and would expect it to be less even including delivery, especially if you can buy "the whole 9 yards".

5 1/2 bag is $75, 6 bag is $77.50. No delivery charge if you order a minimum of 5 yards.

Going to do a big foundation/slab monolithic pour in a couple of weeks, so I know the prices.
