Hey all, Ive recently bought a Kubota L4400 and have been running it pretty hard mowing, tilling, and loader work and the engine coolant temp guage doesnt get high which makes me think it may be malfunctioning. I attached a pic that shows how high its getting. Is this normal? It has been pretty cool in the mid 60's but I still figured it should be running warmer. Thanks

Looks normal to me. These Kubota temp guages are a poor reference. I have had several of various models and they all do the same, just barely make it off the peg.

Welcome to TBN. I would catch it warmed up after working it hard and test it with a meat thermometer or some other device. My L4400 tends to ride about there too.

Thats about where the temp guage reads on my new L4400. Let me ask you this, how much are you catching a whiff of hydraulic fluid? I seem to smell mine venting (I suppose) all the time.

Well, since both of ours do it, maybe its normal. I still haven't found the vent though.
A] do you know what the T-stat is rated for, 160, 170, 180?
B] remove the radiator cap, let the engine idle until it is warmed up and take note of the coolant temperature as suggested with a meat thermometer. You will know when the T-stat is open when you see a large coolant flow.
C] work the engine hard, carefully remove the radiator cap and do as in . you may also run with the radiator cap off with a meat thermometer installed.
D] this may or may not apply, there have been cases where the wrong size T-stat has been installed that will turn side ways or float in the T-stat housing allowing the coolant to flow continuously.
E] where is the temp gauge sensor located, is it in a good spot in the coolant flow?
F] you may wish to change the temp gauge that reads in the range of 100 to 220 deg. or go digital all together. Remember that the sensor must be in the coolant flow.

I mowed with the L4400 for the first time today. Pulled a 5 foot finish mower for about an hour and 45 minutes. Temp gauge climbed a smidge higher than where it is in your pic.
