I have read on this site some very unfortunate incidents of B2710 owners and the transmission failure at low hours. I am almost ready to make my purchase for a compact and was thinking B2710 with loader and woods 7500 hoe. I don't think I need a bigger machine but the L3010 with loader and woods 7500 hoe I would buy if I knew that the machine had a better drivetrain that would likely require less chance of failure. The L3010 with loader & hoe cost the same as a B21 with loader and hoe! I realy like the B21 most of my work will be loader, backhoe, rear mower bushhog, boxblade, and a front plow for snow. I am so confused. The machine is for home use and I can take my time to acomplish each task.

Maybe I have been missing something. What transmission problem with the 2710? I read about one person with a noise, but no failures.

Rick,

I am a Blue owner so I have a prejudiced opinion, for sure.
However, I have been noticing an increased amount of "concerns" and/or "problems" with the orange machines. They do sell a lot of them, maybe they are having a problem keeping the quality up with increased sales?

I do know that there are a lot of satisfied owners out there of Kubota tractors, had I not been able to buy more tractor for less money from an excellent dealer of New Holland...I'd probably have bought a Kubota! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

If you're really concerned, just wait, check out other brands (especially BLUE) and when you're satisfied/confident about what you want, even if it's Orange, then go for it!

Good Luck, JimBinMI

Alan L., I'm like you; I think I've read of one serious problem with a B2710 transmission, and of course, it was covered under warranty.

And JimBinMI, there aren't nearly as many of those Blue tractors around, and I think they're darned good tractors, but I think I've read of more complaints about them than I have of the Kubotas.

I've had absolutely no problems with the transmission on my 2710, but if there is a problem I'd like to know before my warranty runs out next May. Hopefully there's nothing to it - there are an awful lot of 2710s being sold.

Well, my warranty goes until next August, but with over 200 hours, I sure have no complaints with mine.

Bird,

My post was influenced by what I have read, here are some excerpts.

On 10/6 RonJHall posted:
My 2910 steering has times when it is hard to turn after about 1 hour of mowing lawn. It appears to be a power steering problem. It started to show up when tractor had 30 hours on it. I now have 40 hours

On 10/25 M. Sullivan posted:
Just found out they have to replace the hydro on my 2000 B2710, 53 hours total use--I'm just sick. They say the tractor basically gets dismantled and reassembled--don't even want it back

On 10/27 glenmac posted:
Among other tractor disasters today, the parking brake on my 2910 broke. It was always difficult to engage -- half the time it wouldn't seem to "catch". Now it won't catch at all; the lever just flops up and down, engaging nothing.

On 11/1 Billc posted:
This concerns my Brother's 3710. He called me over the other day to look at the bucket on his loader. On the back of the bucket is a large bracket welded to the bucket. The loader arms attach to this bracket. The weld on the left bracket had given way. This caused the metal on the bucket to tear clean through.

The following post refers to three (3) 2710’s
On 11/21 Mike R. posted:
Well, add two more B2710 trans to the list, friend of mine,David's has 100 hours on it,ours has 185.I was blading our drive this past weekend and out of nowhere I hear what sounds like a bearing going out, right about where the hydro bolts to the back of the block.I just backed the tractor in the shop and shut it down, not wanting to do anymore damage then what has already happened.Davids tractor has been acting up since almost day one.He has been told by a Kubota Rep.,not the dealer, to "just keep on running it,it will be fine" This rep also has his own personal 2710,that he says is also making the same noise, but he was'nt worried about.

Not to mention the countless problems with the new BX’s.

Keep in mind, there may not be more Blue compacts around, but there are more CNH products around, they are the world’s largest manufacturer of agricultural equipment!

The key item to keep in mind is that Kubota is an exceptional company, and not only will they take care of the problem but go out of their way to make sure the customer is happy. Rare these days. Also, polar opposite to JD in my opinion. Also keep in mind that nothing is perfect. Ex. automakers recalled MORE vehicles than they sold this year (19M v. 17M).

Would guess that if there is an inherent problem in the 27/2910 that surfaces over time they will make it right with extended warranties, etc.. One of the few purchases/companies I have this level of confidence in.

/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif Just to comment on the 2710-2910 issues. I have just shy of 50 hour on my tractor. The only problem I have had is with the power steering not responding when tractor was hot. I have not had any other problems. When I told my dealer about the problem he made arrangements to it up and make whatever repairs were required. Kubota's suggestion was to change the oil and filters. My dealer did that and checked out several other items to make sure there are were no other items causing problem. Until it gets hot outside again I cannot tell if this fixed problem.
The transmission problems on the 2710's may be repaired on the newer models with the filter and return line modifications. Part of this fix adds an additional return line that goes to the front of the transmission case.
/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif The one item that I'm quite happy with is the response by my dealer and his concerns that any problem with my tractor is repaired. I don't think the manufacture is going to make a lot of difference if you get the kind of service that I have experienced. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
In my area of South East Michigan you can find several dealers for each model. JD and Kubota having more than NH. Before I bought, I did research on who would respond to a problem and solve it without major downtime. Both JD and Kubota were high on this list. But what sold me was JD did not have the tractor in stock. Kubota was in stock. One other big factor was the Kubota dealer is close by. Don't have to go out of my way to stop at his store.
/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif If I have a complaint with Kubota is their lack of access over the Internet. They have a good site for selling you a tractor but no input to communicate with them except through my dealer. In this age with Internet email and phones I would expect to find more information and access other than this forum. I received a 30-day after delivery questionnaire 6 months after I took delivery. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
You need a good dealer to make sure you can get all that is needed to maintain a tractor for 20 plus years. My last Kubota (7100 HST) was about 15 years old never had to open the WSM in those years to repair it. I'm sure that the fellow that bought it is having the same kind of service. My 340 Farmal was over 40 years old and most of the items on it were still original. I owned it for over 25 of those years. I plan on keeping this tractor for many years. When I see some of the changes going on in the tractor businesses, with buying up of brands. I do get concerned. I have never owned a Green tractor but have many neighbors that do. They have the some kind of response from there dealers as I do. It was very hard to find a dealer that could supply parts for my Farmal.
/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif Look for service and parts and somebody that will be there in 20 plus years. When you find these then make a decision and which brand you want buy.
