Guys - Would it be possible that we could have a Sub Section under the Yanmar section that would be labeled "Common Maintenance Items"

I haven't been with this forum very long, but I see a lot of repeat info.

Common maintenance folder or subsection could have things in it like

1. How to clean the Hyd fluid screen
2. How to check the electrical system
3. How to check the gear oil

etc etc

Or have an FAQ section???

That's kind of why there are tractor brand specific forums. Having another forum title would just be a repeat.

I understand there are different tractor forums - But there are 182 pages of discussion about the Yanmar - When there are probably 10 or less pages of "The top Yanmar maintenance questions" I think we all waste a lot of time repeating what has already been discussed.

If a newbie comes in and says how do I clean my screen - You can tell them, "See discussion #5 in the Top maintenance question" Then if they have additional questions that is fine.

I realize we can currently do that now, but you have to spend time searching for the particular discussion.

Its kind of like having tool boxes - I could go back to the house and get a hammer out of my tool box - Or I could get the hammer out of the tool box that I carry with me on the front of my tractor. If it is a "Common use tool" I have it with me - If it's a specialty tool, I may have to go back to the house.

I think what you are looking for is a "sticky". They are threads that always stay at the top of the forum listing.

That sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe the forum administrator could present it to the webmaster, to see if it could be set up. They could do it for the other brands too, not just Yanmar. Are you there Forum Administrator? It could have common maintenance items, and post for specific task, like changing the clutch. It could be an online maintenance manual, with tabs for specific model numbers, and subtabs for specific task. And you can add your own personal tips and experiences. It would continue to grow as members contributed information. This also may help alleviate some of the double posting. If you don't search for something just right, it won't come up. I would be willing to contribute.

And are you assuming all the information would be accurate, or would you expect to have to filter through the posts and make your own decisions about accuracy just like now? I have read more than enough misinformation here, and other forums as well, probably posted by a well-meaning individual, but serious enough to cause problems with one's tractor.

You have a valid point.
I have learned not to assume anything I read on the internet, email, hear on the street, read in the newspaper, etc.,to be accurate. Filtering through information has become instinctive for me. Sometimes I find useful information and sometimes I don't. Weighing pros and cons, I have found more pro than con on this forum or I wouldn't waste my time reading it.

All of the content on this site is subject to debate - But I'm sure we could get the top 10 maintenance items separated and if there is more than one way to do the top 10 then people can be free to post their differing method also.

Maybe I should retract my suggestion for the online repair manual for now. I have a habit of making things too complicated (over engineering). Step back to the top ten as orginally suggested and see how that works out. Now, how do we "get r done"?

how do we "get r done"?
You post a draft summarizing what you have learned. Then everybody tells you what you got wrong. Repeat.

Really, all the answers you need are already here, if you spend some time searching and comparing conflicting views. I think anyone will get better information by that process compared to relying on one poster's compilation.
