I am looking at a clean B6000 that I found on the classifieds here. Very nice, stored indoors. Can anyone tell me about this model. I dont know the age, hp, track record, etc. I did read somewhere that another poster has a grey market B7000 - is the B6000 a US model? Can parts be found?
STEVE,
BEFORE I BOUGHT A B2710 I HAD A B6000. I BOUGHT IT USED,VERY GOOD CONDITION. WHEN I SOLD IT, IT LOOKED ALMOST NEW. IT WAS 12.5 HP, ABOUT 1980-84, AND HAD A FRONT PLOW. I USED IT TO PLOW MY 750 FT. DRIVEWAY AND HAUL WOOD IN A CART TO THE HOUSE.OTHER THAN THAT I HAD NO USE FOR IT BECAUSE IT WAS TOO SMALL TO REALLY BE USEFUL FOR ME. THE PTO RUNS CCW AND I WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO GET A REVERSING GEARBOX TO PUT A MOWER OR SOMETHING ON IT. AVAILABILITY OF PARTS - ?.
IF YOU DON'T NEED ANYTHING MORE THAN A 4WD GARDEN TRACTOR WITH BALLS, ITS A NICE UNIT. I JUST NEEDED A LOT MORE.
GOOD LUCK
The B6000 is the classic model that led Kubota into producing tractors for the world market. PTO does run backward but most brush hog boxes should cope with this - ie reverse the blades. Shaft is smaller and requires an adaptor. Check grey market entries for B5000. Like someone else said - Its better than a ride on lawn mower but not quite a tractor. Great if you have a small block ie 1 acre say and don't have space for a larger machine and don't have lawn like a golf course.
Due to age check condition of tyres and that it has been kept garaged inside away from the weather
Having owned a B6000 for ten years I feel compelled to put in a few good words for this model. Despite comments to the contrary, it's a real tractor. I moved hundreds of cubic yards of material with the FEL on mine and maintained a half mile of driveway with its boxblade. I never ceased to be amazed at what this little tractor could do. When I finally wore mine out, I bought a B7500DT to replace it. To me the new tractor is only slightly more useful than the old one. It is, however, a lot easier to get parts for. If you do decide to buy the B6000 you are considering, you need to know about Wengers of Myerstown which is the best source for used parts I was able to find.
I have heard that the B6000 is the only model Kubota tractor that was produced in both Grey (non-US) and US models. I don't know how true that really is, but I do have a B6000 sales brochure that was distrubuted in the US, so I am inclined to believe that at least it was produced as a US model.
The biggest complaints that I have heard are about the PTO shaft turning the wrong direction.
These smaller compact tractors can do an amazing amount of work...especially if (and only if?) they are 4wd. I have not ever used a 2wd version; I do know that I would be very disappointed in my B7100 if it were only 2wd.
