Early model YM1700
I visited a Tractor Supply Co store the other day and found a very nice seat for my 1700, especially made for the yanmar. Under $60 and I love it. I saw the same seat at Agri Supply some time ago for just under $100, but didn't want to pay their price. The original seat on my tractor was shaped like a bowl and my big butt didn't fit at all. This new seat is L shaped and makes for a very comfortable ride.

That looks like the same seat I bought from Hoye Tractor for about $60. Unfortunately, I have not been able to make it work on my 1700. Since the seat is wider it interferes with the 3 pt lift lever. The L-brakects that came with it are too short to raise it up high enough to not jam the lever. Also what did you do on the back part of the seat? The old pan seat had 2 hard rubber supports to keep the seat of the 3 point mechanism in the back.

I tried building some extensions for the L-brackets and that did not work out either. It appears that if I raise the seat enough to get the needed clearance my leggs to will be too short to properly operate the controls which may be what your real problem is. I am only 5'8" and I might have the same issue as you with the PTO handle sitting up that high.

If you could post some pics of seat attachment in the raised postion i would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Bob

i ordered the bracket assembly from TSC that was recommended for that particular seat, however when I got the brackets the bolts would not fit in the square holes in the bottom of the seat. i substituted the bolts with bolts of my own and put them on my grinder and ground opposite sides of the bolt head so that they would fit down in the hole. i then turned the bolt head so that the sides that weren't ground down would shoulder up against the metal. i then simply used washers and a nut and attached the brackets to the bottom of the seat. probably not the best solution but cost was $0 and it took about 30 minutes.

Say Bob I had the same problem as you, the lever, or at least the bolt nut, hit the seat. So I took my dremel and ground the holes so they were slots. And now my seat sets at a angle, somewhat, but it clears. I moved it, so it just clears the fender on the left side. Then for the bumpers, I went to a auto repair shop and got some car valve springs, he gave them to me free. They are 1 1/4" across, and 1 3/4" long. I drilled a hole, in the plate, that the old bumpers hit on I think it was about 3/8 inch holes. Then brazed a washer on to one end of the valve springs, and put a bolt down through the washer, through the hole I drilled and put a nut and lock washer on it. To finish it I went to Walmart and got a couple of cane tips and put over the valve springs, they fit real tight, and have been using it that way for over a year, and it works great. The valve springs are softer than the old rubber bumpers was.

I took the spring on the 3pt hitch lever and cut in half with a shorter bolt. This moved the lever over enough to clear the seat works good and real comfortable.

by the way, i used my original bumpers by attaching them with the same method as the seat. i ground two bolt heads on opposite sides so that they would fit in the square holes. if you look really close at my pic you can see some of the holes on the upper part of my seat.

BTW, I'll make someone a good deal on one of those seats... I bought one and tried it on my Kubota B6000, and it wouldn't fit.

I've since sold the B6000, and the seat is sitting in my garage, and has never been used really...

If anyone is interested, send me a PM.

Thanks for the pic. Those brackets look like the same ones I have that came with the seat. It appears that the best solution will be to shorten the bolt as Eddie recommended. I also like Dick's idea for the back supports. I have not been able to get the rubber ones of the old pan seat. I hate to destroy the seat just to get them off.

I bought the seat about a month ago and tried a couple of times to make it work and got frustrated and put the old one back on. I planned on getting back to it one day. When I saw this post I realized I should have posted a question about this a long time ago. Maybe now I can finallly get it to work. That old pan seat is really uncomfortable.

Thanks guys for your help.
