Cole McNifty Gravity Flow Fertilizer Attachment

Anyone know how the McNifty Flow Fertilizer Attachment works? I don't want to spend $338 if one can be home made.

They claim no moving parts, adjustable flow rate and automatic shut off. I am thinking I can use a 5 gallon pail and make my own version to use with my cultivator for side dressing corn. Just have to know how the shutoff and flow rate works. I hope to have something working before corn planting season is here.

We have sold over 1000 of those for use on Tobacco fields over the years and they work perfectly. The key to their operation is the special cast sliding adjustable spring loaded gate setup at the bottom of the unit. They also have to have a airtight enclosure to keep the ferterlizer from clumping up and stopping the flow, hence the plastic lid. They also have auto on and off built into the gate valve.
