Your right about what it does John, I would hold the button for a minimum of 30 seconds. If it is extremly cold then I would hold it for about 45 seconds. Once it starts it will sound jumpy till it warms up which takes about a minute or two then it smooths out. Just wait till the machine is good and warm before you work it too hard so that the fluids have a chance to warm up. I have to keep mine outside till I get a chance to build our pole barn and last year we had some fairly cool days and I had no problem starting. Also make sure you get some diesel supplement added to your fuel if you get tempertures in the freezing area.
