My grandfathers tractor has been repainted and looks fine. It has not been used in many years, only pushed about the shop. The clutch does not seem to engage and I have fully adjusted the linkage. Any ideas here????

thanks joe b.

If you mean pushing the clutch pedal has no effect on the tractor disengaging, then you either way out of adjustment or you might have a stuck clutch disc. This oftens happens when a tractor sits up unused for a period of time. There are several posts on here deal with unsticking one, if that is what you figure happened.
Basically the best way to unstick it is with a load subjected to the tactor with the clutch disengaged. Plowing, discing, and most other ground engaging usually works. Sometimes playing tug of war with anothe vehicle will do it. There are also oil/chemical means but most concern me as contaminating the porus clutch disc can become a problem.
I personally prefer the tug of war, provided you have another larger tractor to play with, especially if it is hydrostatic.
A shock load usually works best, but be careful to not tear up your driveline.

this thread is from a couple months ago..use the search function and you'll find more...read this one first if the clutch doesn't disengage...http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...a-clutch-wont-disengage.html?highlight=clutch

If the problem is "the tractor will not move when the clutch pedal is released" and you have adjusted the clutch PROPERLY, maybe it's shot and needs replacing?

A clutch that won't engage = no tractor movement
A clutch that won't disengage = transmission and engine are locked together - making it hard to put in gear when running and hard to stop when finally moving..until the transmission can be forced into neutral.

which one is it?
