I noticed last time I tried to start my L 1501 that it seemed to roll forward and then it was fine. Today I had to put it in neutral and after it was started I could not get it into gear even with the clutch depressed. I let it warm up and then put it in low range and started it and away we went putting the clutch in does not disengauge it. I am wondering if it might be stuck against the fly wheel. I can not find my manual and am wondering if this is a hydraulic clutch. I do not look forward to pulling the thing apart as my time is all messed up with a new job.

Charles - I doubt very much it's a hydraulic clutch - more likely a dry plate type. Check the linkage for something bent or disconnected. If it still seems stuck, try starting the tractor (in lowest gear), push down the clutch and then push the brake pedal to break it free. If it will slip but still drags, the linkage needs to be adjusted for more throw.

Thanks, I did try starting in gear and pushed against a solid object and just spun the tires. I will try adjusting the linkage for more throw and repeat the pushing /break exersize.

I think it would be better to use a high gear and the brake. Have enough room to shut down before hitting anything. A higher gear puts more stress on the stuck clutch.

I had a similar problem and was never able to get it to break loose by attempting to stop the wheels while in gear (running the loader into a dirt pile, accidentally running into a large tree, etc.).

I started to split the tractor to get at the clutch (not a fun job). But after removing the floorboards and some shrouds I found a small inspection hole covered by a screen. I removed the screen and stuck an old paring knife between the clutch plate and the flywheel/driven-disk and it popped loose very easily. I thought they would be stuck together tightly but they weren't.

I don't know if your Kubota has such a hole/vent. To look for it, locate the split where the engine is bolted to the transmission. Then look all around the engine block a few inches in front of that split.

The hole would probably either have a small cover and located underneath, or else be in a protected (dry) location (maybe on the side) and covered with a screen.

Thanks to all that responded. I must confess after I got the thing going I did not return to this board to post the results.
I did start it in the highest gear and ran into a dirt pile with the pedal pushed in and it did break free.

Thanks again
