Clutch replacement cost

Can anyone tell me what the average cost would be to replace a clutch and/ or pressure plate in a TYPICAL 50-80 hp TRACTOR?? DO ALL TRACTORS HAVE TO BE "SPLIT" TO CHANGE A CLUTCH? Do they last a long time depending upon use/ abuse etc?

I've only had an HST trans to this point but my next tractor will more than likely be a geared one, hopefully new but maybe used--hence the questions!

i think a couple thousand hours on a clutch is more than average. I had a guy that use to work with me, who has his massey mid 2000's model split for an issue and i think it was $400 to split it, but i really dont remember? could have been $800 but i think it was closer to 400. That was on a 25 hp tracotr.

Is that parts only or parts + labor? If P&L, that's pretty low.

Just had my clutch replaced a few weeks ago. I decided on a remanufactured clutch over new. The cost was $1,686 ($700 labor and $986 for clutch, bearings, fluids and shop supplies). Mine was a double clutch which is more expensive than single (dealer says). They said plates and everything else was worn but would probably last a year if only the bearings were replaced. Since they were already in there I went ahead and replaced it all. 72hp with 2600 hours.

Thats parts and labor done in a shop that does not charge $100 per hour labor or some ridiculous hourley rate. Ken Sweet

I am giong to need to repace my clutch soon as well. Is this something that can be completed by a do it yourselfer with basic hand tools? this would be on my IH 434

My new clutch,pressure plate and bearing was 200 and while I had it split I did the PTO clutch which was 98 bucks. Its aint that bad to change. Tractor was already split for a engine rebuild though

Life span depends on the use and the operator.

I bought a Case 1194 when it was two years old, had < 400 hours on it, clutch was shot - it had been used by a bunch of kids who worked for a landscaper to load bark mulch. Replaced the clutch, and I use the tractor mostly for haying (put it in gear and drive), much less loader work. 2000 hours on it now and I've never even adjusted the clutch. I don't expect to ever have to replace it even if it makes it to 10,000 hours.

I replaced the clutch in my vintage Farmall H in an afternoon, by myself. I had helped do some of these 40 years ago, but for all I remembered....Main thing is that on these you don't have to split the tractor. Cost less than $250 for kit with disc, pressure plate, release and pilot bearings.
Last winter I got somebody to put a clutch in my Ford 3500D TLB. A construction super I know put me on to a guy who did serious repair work onsite. He said he'd do it in my shed for $1000 plus parts. The parts came to about $220; somebody local rebuilt the pressure plate.
It took George four or five pretty full days even with me helping, and a long round trip from Lexington County; several steps were trickier than he expected, I think. But he held to the thousand, and seemed happy with it. I think things have been slow in that field, too.
Anyway, my point to your question: it depends. You probably won't find a modern tractor that doesn't need to be split, if you hire it done labor will be five times parts, and if you have the dealer do it, eight.
