Our dog's name is Bailey too! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Although she's a Doll Faced Silky Yorkshire Terrier, not a Golden.

After trying to get this problem under control for about 2 years, we finally threw up our hands and let our groomer clip her nails. It ends up that we may take her to the groomer a little more often, but it's well worth it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's a nail clipping primer from planet-pets.com . I have to admit that it was never easy with our spoodle (spitz/poodle mutt). It was always a two-person ordeal with a muzzle on the pooch. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I think if we had started with him as a puppy the following might have worked:
"Make trimming time fun and not a struggle. Trimming your dog's nails does not have to be a chore or unpleasant. If your dog is not used to having his nails trimmed, start slowly, and gradually work up to simply holding his toes firmly for 15-30 seconds. Do not let him mouth or bite at you. It can take daily handling for a week or more to get some dogs used to this. When your dog tolerates having his feet held, clip just one nail, and if he is good, praise him and give him a tiny treat. Wait, and then at another time, do another nail. Continue until all nails have been trimmed. Slowly, you will be able to cut several nails in one sitting, and finally all the nails in one session."

My only advice (and this is not directed at you if you have successfully clipped your dog's toenails for 8 years) is not to clip them too short! I clipped one of our dachshund's front nails too short and he bled so much that I though he was going to bleed to death! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I even had cattle dehorning powder (stops bleeding) on hand and that did not do a thing. I finally jumped in the truck and made an emergency run to the vet because he had bled so much and I could not get it to stop. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The vet had some fine powder that clotted it right up. It was one heck of a wakeup call. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Anyhoo, my wife does the trimming now because I am too much of a baby to risk it again. She makes a big production of getting a slice of meat ready for the dog beforehand (and makes sure that he sees what she is doing) and then I hold him while she does the dirtywork.
The dog is so excited about getting his treat afterwards that he practically does not even see what is going on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I guess the moral to this story is that women are way smarter than men! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have a 1 year old Akita. I take her to the VET to have her nails trimmed. Every time I try it at home she pees all over me.
It only took me ONE time of pinning her down on the bed in the master bedroom to NOT do that again.

Our dogs all hate it, despite the fact that we start clipping nails when they're about a week old, keep it up, and never hurt them. They just don't like having bits taken off.
Serious obedience helps. We had to have a strong talking to our old *****, but she comes and rolls over to have them clipped, but it's obvious she doesn't like it.
Use good trimmers. I like the shear type rather then the gillotine. They're sharper and the blades make up better. Don't cut too much. If they have trtee-climbing claws, cut them several times every few days until they're under control. That seems to make the quick recede.
