Majic Clear Coat High Gloss Laquer, Clear, 1 gal. - For Life Out Here

I ran a cross this today and was wondering if anyone ever used this enamel.

I painted my RFM a few months ago with their Majic paint and was wondering if this clear enamel would accent it a little more and help the paint stay on. I have a couple more items to paint so I am really curious. There weren't any reviews on the website so your input is welcomed.

I noticed it says Laquer and enamel both on the can, many years ago when I was in the auto body/ collision business Laquer had to be buffed to a shine and enamel dried to a shine so this has me baffled, but either way I would think you will have to sand the colored surface before you apply the clear and you will have to be very carefull not to break through the color while sanding, without sanding the clear will start peeling before long. if the enamel you put on has a nice shine I would leave it as is.

Years ago I dabbled in body work and I didn't think lacquer over top of enamel worked very well. Faulty memory or has something changed?

You are right, the lacquer thinner would blister the enamel but the can in Deere Dudes link says lacquer and enamel both so that has me confused. I guess if there are instructions on the can it might address this.

Lacquer can cause lifting/wrinking, when sprayed over enamel.

But, it depends on what type of enamel you are painting over.

If the enamel is soluble, meaning, it will soften up when wiped with a rag that has thinner on it, there is a good chance it will lift.

If you use the proper technique, it can still be done. But, you should avoid trying, if you are not experienced.

The OP's question was somewhat confusing, but if the question is, will clear help keep paint that is coming off, from doing that, the answer is no.

Adhesion problems are the result of improper prepping of the substrate, incorrect, or poor quality materials, or improper application. Nothing you put on the top, will change any of that.

Sure will make it shine. Some of the new paints out there today are alot more durable than paints of yesteryear. I think putting a good quality clear over top what he has would make last longer. Providing whats there is good to start with. Dont know if I would use lacquer though.
