I have a used Cross double spool valve that was working when removed from a parts machine...between the time it was removed and I got it some dirt and gunk found its way down into the working ports (that were not plugged)...

Can I safely pull the spools out and flush the valve body? what is the best solvent to do this?...

unfortunately I do not have any hydraulic fluid on hand....is there an alternative I can use to coat the bore and the spools before re-installing them?

I would use compressed air to blow out "dirt and gunk"....blow in at P port and pull spool lever fully both ways while blowing, start with spool valve number 1...Dont forget the RV might need to come out....and the load check valve.....

If you feel everything came out, I would reinstall the valve and test run....second option would be to take spools out....

It is possible that there are O-rings just inside the houseing on both sides....when re installing the spools, make sure not forcing spool thru the O-rings.....be gentle and turn the spool, while pushing it in....

Use what ever clean oil you have on hand to coat the spools when re installing....motor oil is great.....

Diesel fuel or K1 is a good solvent to use also if you need it. The spools usually just slide out once the handle and endcaps are removed.
