Hope everyone's doing well. I have a question regarding cleaning off dirt. I bush hogged the other day and didn't have the cover on one set of the remotes and they have dirt and debris in them now. What's the best way of cleaning them out? On a similar note, my pto shaft that connects the shredder to the pto of the tractor had been sitting on a dirt floor and the 2 halves were apart. Now the two halves don't slide well anymore because there had been some grease on the shafts and now mixed with dirt, there is friction to movement. How do I clean the grease and dirt off the shafts so the 2 halves slide easier? Thanks in advance for all the info.

I've cleaned remotes by wiping out the excess dirt with a rag and then spraying out with WD-40 or something similar. I have also just squirted them out with a water hose. Either way works and hasn't caused me any problems.
On the drive lines just do anything that would cut the grease/dirt out. Pressure washer or car wash maybe. You could just try swabing a rag thru kind of like cleaning a gun barrel. I doesn't really need to be a perfect job. There will always be some dirt/dust in the grease. If you wash them, get them dry and regreased to prevent excess rusting.
If you want a really perfect job on the drivelines a mechanics parts washer would be the ticket.

I keep a can of wd-40 with a spray hose handy. I also use slip on caps and plugs fro my female and male connectors.. in addition.. all my male hoses get slippe dinto a sandwhich baggie with a rubber band around it. Sounds like lots of work.. but really aint.. take less than a minute to clean and put away.

P pull the plugs from the female plugs and hose out the port with the wd.. ( won't hurt the orings ), then get the male end and gige it a shot to.. then plug them in.. the snap my male/femal caps together to keep them clean. Toss the baggies.. they ar 45 cents for a box of 50 of them at walmart.

For the pto shaft.. slide it apart. slip off plastic sheath.. the inner male portion can be wiped clean with a bunch of paper towles and your favorite petro-solvent ( diesel, kerosene, mineral spirits ).. wipe it clean. Now.. the female one is a bit tougher as it is contaminated internally. I stiff a paper towell into the yoke end really tight, and then pour my solvent down the shaft, and slosh it back and forth using another wad of PT to cap the other end. then dump it out into a bucket. take a shop rag.. wet it with more clean solveng, and then either push it thru or fish it thru the female portion starting with the yoke end.. ( if your yoke end is sealed. then the pour/shosl/drain is about as good as you get.. though i have taken a rod and bent a hook on it and made a 'swab' out of a shop rag and some 1/4" round rod stock.. and swapped it like a gun barrell..

After cleaning.. grease the bajeezus out of it and slide it together...

if you have to seperate them again for storage.. seperate and wrap male end with newspaper, and slip a baggie over female end and rubber band.
