Cleaning fuel storage barrel

I scored a freebie today from the local car wash - a white 30 gallon barrel that I want to use to build my fuel storage tank system. The barrel had the teflon car polish/wax in it. I want to make sure I clean it our really well as I don't want any of that stuff going into the tractor. The instructions on the label say to dilute it with water, the first aid instructions for skin exposure says flush it with water. So, I'm assuming that it's a water soluble teflon/polish/wax product. Would adding something like Simple Green and water be sufficient to clean out the barrel or should I do something else?

Like I said, I don't need the injectors on the tractor plugging up with "teflon".

You and I think alike. I would add 3 gallons of warm water and a 1/4 gallon of Purple Power or Simple Green plus a healthy squirt of dish soap. Put the bung back in it and slosh it around for 10 minutes then drain out. Rinse repeatedly with fresh water then turn upside down with the bungs out and let dry.

If it's slow to dry put a hair dryer in one of the bung holes and allow it to run for 30 minutes on low.

Just confirm the composition of the drum is HDPE for fuel storage. Some drums do not have UV inhibitors so a shady spot will give you a longer lifespan, assuming outdoor storage.

Thanks guys. I forgot that I've got some Purple Power too, that stuff will clean anything. Maybe I'll hook up the pressure washer and use it with the Simple Green or Purple Power and stick the pressure washer wand right down into the barrel to give it a good cleaning.
