I want to ask you a technical question. How do you clean your creek gravel? What horse power machine do you use and is it 4 wheel drive? Is a bobcat better? The gravel gets 12 inches deep in places and is very hard to do by hand. I would need a machine that is made for hard work. I don't want to break the transmission or anything else doing this type of work . This probably would be the hardest thing I would do with this machine. I looked at the Kabotas and mahindras but really don't have the buget for a tractor right now. I have someone now that will charge $45 per hour to do it with a bobcat. The county is suppose to put colverts in and I hope this fixes the problem so I won't have to keep doing this. Tractors are less expensive than the bobcats, I've been considering both but am going to wait for now to see what the county does.

I clean out the spring gravel every year with my Kioti 35 hp tractor and loader. In low range it has more than enough power to do the job.

I would prefer a tractor over a skidsteer for working in creeks

I find it's really tough to get good traction in my creek, so I tend to use the backhoe for everything. The loader will just dig in and the wheels will start spinning...

An excavator or backhoe would be the best but both are expensive and only are useful for one or two things (well, bigger excavators are a little more useful). Given the option of a skid steer and a tractor for the task I would go with the tractor. It has better clearance, better traction (if you have R-1's) and is more useful in that you have the 3pt hitch that would allow you to use a box blade or rear blade also if you want the option of pulling material.
