Cleaning a diesel gas can?

This might be stupid question but just got done installing a vent cap to improve the flow and looked inside a saw some mold or grime. How best to clean it or not?

Mine looked similar a while back so I pressure washed them out the best I could (Used the Hotsy) and it seemed that it bounced around inside really well and cleaned them really well. Seemed to be dirt and not mold after all. The outside of my cans also looked just like yours so hopefully it is also only dirt in your case also.

Soap and a half gallon of piping hot water along with a handful of pea stone. Shake vigorously. Rinse and dry.

I'ma big fan of "Fuel Doctors" About Us

Just a few ml. added to the fuel can, then fill with diesel (works with all the other fuels too, petrol & 2-stroke). It'll kill and break-down any biologicals + any water to micro-particles, then suspend it in the fuel.
