Hi guys, I'm new to the construction portion of TBN, but I recently was able to purchase a used Clark 620 skidsteer for a great deal ($500). It runs, but a little rough; all the hydraulics work good and it needs a good re-paint job.

My question....I haven't been able to find any information about this model anywhere on the internet. Does anyone have any resources I can utilize for the work I am going to need to put into it?

I have found this link that has users and service manuals available for a Bobcat 620, but I am unsure that it is refering to the same model.

My other question is if an early 80's model of a Clark skid steer, with a Bobcat product line name is the same as the current Bobcat company that is producing skid steers.

Thanks!

Dave

What you have is actually an M620 Bobcat loader. I don't know much about the M620 other than they used to be white with red wheels!

Go to Bobcat's website and click on their "Products" heading and then choose the "Historical Spes" category. Choose the skid steer category, and page all the way down to the M620 model.

Your Bobcat dealer would be the best source for information and parts.

The Clark Bobcat 620 was a lighter duty version of Bobcat's very popular 700/720/721/722 series Bobcat. It was built primarily for farm and light duty use. Biggest problem with the machine is the VH4D Wisconson air-cooled motor. Didn't hold up if it was not maintained very-well. Good news is that the engine is easy to work on and get parts for.

Visit your local Bobcat dealer and they will be able to answer all your questions. $500 for a running Bobcat is a steal. You should be able to invest some money in it and still have a cheap machine.

It defitinely runs, and has a new starter, coil, plugs and wires. I have budgeted another $1K in additional work to get it up to daily usable condition. Light farm use is exactly what I have planned for it.

Didn't see this before... whoops.

The original "Bobcat" was founded by the Melroe brothers; hence, Melroe was the "owner" of the Bobcat skid steer. Clark bought the Melroe Company a while ago (1969), but was later itself bought by IR (Ingersoll-Rand) who now owns the company (simply named "Bobcat" -- the name of "Melroe" was dropped in 2000). In theory, then, yes, the same people who made the 600-series Bobcats are the same people who make your S300s today.

Dave,

You did get a very good deal. I bought an old Bobcat for 4 times your price that has no identification information except that the cage plate says it's for a model M-700. I bought manuals of a 700 and found it's not a 700. From the postings on this thread it may very well be a M-620 like yours. Tell me if the control panel has ONLY an ammeter, ignition switch and two warning lights? Also, does the "back door" have a simple drop-in pin latch?

I have a bobcat 620 that my dad bought back in the late 70's. Great machine for farm use. Not many made, but much better than the 610's. I just had the Wisconsin engine rebuilt. Mine has a key, ammeter, trans and another red warning light and a toggle switch for the lights. The rear engine door is red with a single drop in pin on the right side. The repair shop I took it to to have the engine looked at last winter had never seen one like it. I think it is a great machine for the money. I would like to upgrade to a diesel with more lift capacity, but replacing the engine this winter at about $3800, I'm stuck with it for a while. Go to a bobcat dealer, they will have the information you need. I'm trying to add pictures from owners manual.
