My CK25HST has developed a short high pitch screech that's intermittent. It sounds like it's coming from the back of the engine or a little further back. Sounds like something nicking the bellhousing or possibly a bearing. It does it with the tractor in neutral or in gear and varys accordingly with RPMs.

Everything under the tractor is clean as a whip and plenty of oil. No loose bolts that I can find. I thought I'd post where all the answers are. :)

Any suggestions?

Gear or HST? If it's a gear depress the clutch and see if it goes away, could be the throw out bearing.

This same advice applies to HST tractors. I have been through this and it does sound very much like a throw out bearing. Try pushing in the clutch on your tractor while it is squealing and see if it indeed silences the noise. As mentioned.

I hope your tractor is under warranty as mine was. My dealer grabbed a hold of my tractor and in no time had it back to me as good as new. Never know about a bearing as to my knowlege the TO bearings for Kioti have not been a persistent problem. It's just one of those things.

If the clutch linkage is adjusted correctly with the required freeplay, then the bearing shouldn't be in contact with the pressure plate when fully let out. If the bearing was bad and when you push in the clutch, the noise would be heard.

Interesting thoughts about the clutch.

On a HST I rarely use the clutch peddle except for engaging/disengaging the PTO or starting. There's a good 1-2 inches of peddle play before you feel any pressure.

I'll try the clutch pedal suggestion the next time I hear the noise.

Hehehe, I've also gotten a similar noise that mostly comes on when I use reverse but at times with no HST pressure. If I push on the clutch enough to take up the freeplay then the noise disappears. It's quite loud and sounds like a pulsing screech.

Comes and goes. I imagine it being a throwout bearing being scraped by the fingers on the pressure plate.

I adjusted the clutch to spec, really just verified it, and no change in the screech. Everything works fine.

Thanks HB...

I just can't put my finger on what it might be. I don't think it's clutch related since it's so random and doesn't seem related to any gear, neutral or clutch pressure. My worst fear would be a rear bearing in the engine (700hrs). It doesn't effect the tractor as much as it does me. Oil changes and filters every 100 hours since birth.

I'm about to toss a backhoe on it but you know how that feels when you think - Gosh... Should I? With no warranty left. If I do it, it will be a Woods BH.

Crossing my fingers. :)

Probably not an engine bearing with a screaching noise. Sounds like a pilot or thrust bearing since those are the 2 dry bearings in the bell housing. It is difficult sometimes to pinpoint where a noise is coming from beacuse of the way the castings transmit vibration.

Very true...

I've been all over the tractor when the noise happens and my best guess is the front of the tranny, rear of the engine. It sure transmits sound good.
