I want to install a Block Heater in my 2006 CK20HST. Has anyone done it? What type of heater? How long can the Heater be left on without starting it up? Any Help? Thanks

I think you might be better off with a coolant hose heater. They are cheaper, easier to install and do the same thing. It works by convection, you install it in the lower radiator hose and when you plug it in the coolant near it heats up and naturally rises to the top of the radiator. At the same time cold coolant moves into it's place and it keeps cycling.

I have never needed to use my coolant hose heater. I snowblowed one day while it was 6 degrees below 0 (-6 degrees). What I do is let the glow plugs cycle and start it and then immediatley turn the key back to the glow plug position for a couple of seconds until the rpms raise up to a good idle.

You are not draining your battery since the engine is running when you turn the key to the glowplugs like you do when you just cycle the plugs twice before starting. This works like a charm everytime.

I bought a block heater from Rick Wallace on these boards. He is a great guy to do business with and it was only like thirty bucks. Still sitting in the box in my garage, but will get to it before the cold weather flys.

Think I'll go with the lower hose heater. I've put them in cars so no problem there. With cars, you start em up just about every day, do you do the same with the tractor or can it stay on for a couple of days without starting?

I doubt there is any problem with leaving it plugged in for a couple of days, but it would be a waste of electricity. They work pretty fast. Maybe get a timer to put on the outlet so you can set it to come on a few hours before work time.

I also got a block heater from Rick Wallace for my CK30. Waited until the 100 hour mark to flush the coolant and install the heater. It was a breeze to pop out the frost plug and insert the block heater. I'd go that route again in a heartbeat. I used the heater twice last winter, plugged the tractor in for 2 hours and it made the start-up NICE!
Good luck either way you go.

I have my 3054 equipped with the lower hose heater from NAPA. Works really well, as you'd never get this unit started at 10*F without it. I have mine plugged into a remotely operated outlet that I bought at the local Target store so if it's snowing when I go out to get the morning newspaper I simply click the remote when I get back in the house and wait an hour. The tractor is in a garage(unheated) and an hour will do nicely unless it's below 0*;then you need about two hours and it will start without hesitation
