I keep mine up while mowing thick grasses.
Otherwise I keep it down. Especially around the house and roadways. Or if there are people/kids/animals around.
Neighbor a few years ago unknowingly pelted a car with a hidden rock, and the driver called the police and filed a report. Long story short, their auto insurer came after him for negligence, tampering of a safety device and reckless endangerment. Wound up his home owners insurance dealt with it. But still, the aggravation of having to deal with it isn't worth it. But I continue to see people do it all the time.
