chipper-shredder recs?

I have a 3pt chipper-shredder that work well for larger material, but doesn't do so well with smaller damp material such as leaves. The clearances must be too great since material must be getting caught between the housing and the shredder hammers. Smoke is generated and the outlet pipe gets clogged.

I was wondering whether one of the smaller units designed for yard waste would do a good job with the smaller damp materials.

Does anyone have any recs re: this?

It's a good question hope someone has a suggestion. At one point I had a Troy Built chipper shredder that cost about $600. Couldn't get any real work done with it, green or dry, hard or soft, big or little.
