I am thinking of buying a new Chinese Tractor as they seem to be better value for dollar than the established Western makes.
Are there owners here that would / would not recommend them on personal experience? What are the better brands I should be looking at, or alternatively, avoiding.
Thanks,

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I would buy a used good tractor rather than a Chineese tractor. They actually are getting pretty good at making engines by now, but the fit & finish & the poor metal they use on the rest of the machine - well just in my opinion they are a poor value.

Can you get it serviced at the dealer you get it from? If not, factor in some extended service costs getting it to a dealer that will work on it.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

You are Sirius, aren't you? When you say Western makes, you're not including anything made in Asia that doesn't come from China - say, Mahindra, Kubota, or Kioti? These makes exist because they provide great value. Maybe we disagree on our idea of value.

Not sure where you're from?
I will post, I do own and have owned chinese brand machines and yes they are an exellent bang for the buck, AS LONG AS YOU KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR. If you're thinking of buying from northern tool, ranch hand, or affordable then you'll more then likely be very happy{I'm sure there are other good dealers out there also, these just came to mind}. Some folks will say you have to be mechanically inclined to own one, I'll agree, BUT would like to add you really should be somewhat mechanically inclined to own any brand machine. I have had to work on "name brand" just as much as the chinese machines, if not more. I'm not sure what you mean with your comparisons, but will say the chinese brands for what they cost IMHO are a good choice that can work for years down the road.

PS. If you decide to go this route then just make sure you check the machine over good, check nuts bolts etc.... Also change your fluids as soon as possible. I do this with any machine I get no matter the brand. Also if you do decide to go used I hope you know what to look for, they don't call used machinery "someone elses headache!!!" for no reason.

I'd also like to add you'll get some on here that will bash the snot out of the chinese brand. For the most part they are dung flingers that more then likely never saw this type machine much less been around one. Sorry I felt the need to add this, because 99% of the folks on this site seem to be decent and will give a honest opinion.

I have a Jinma 284 (2008 model) and I am very happy with it. I bought it new from the factory through "chinabestproducts" as a crate tractor. And by that it means that I did the finnal assembly and the run in. I saved a lot of money doing it that way but it was a learning experiance.
While doing the run in I forgot to change and flush the oil in the injector pump and around 95 hours the throttle stuck open wich gave quite the scare but, when I asked the local diesel guru about the sticking throttle he told me right away my error and that has been the only "headache" that this machine has caused me.
Like any other machine out there follow the service manual, check it over every 10 or so hours and it will work just fine.
Do I reccomend Jinma yes. My machine works well, and does everything that I want it to do.

I have heard that no tractor of 60 hp or less is made in the USA anymore. I am thinking that this has been bumped to 70 hp or less. I have a Mahindra and it is a good tractor.:drink:

I could not agree more. I have a 2003 Jinma 284 that has been tough as nails. I have just over 900 hours and the only thing that has been replaced is the battery, thermostat, and the starter. The starter did not die but they came out with a better one that was gear reduction and my factory one was weak and troublesome.

Would I buy again? Heck ya. Its a tough heavy built machine that will flat outwork my Uncles 35Hp John Deere and my buddies 29HP Case.

As far as parts they are no issue. I have broken a few things from my own stupidity. I would have broken the same things with any other brand. I have never had a issue getting a part in 1 or 2 days from Affordable Tractor, Jinma Parts, or Ranch Hand Supply. In all these cases including the starter that I chose to replace the price was 1/2 or less than parts for my Ford Tractor and I usually get the parts quicker.
