I just got a nortrac chinese tiller was just starting to feel it was going to hold up to some abuse after I saw it cut up a big root and bring up some rocks. But I hit a good size rock and it bouced and broke off one of the 3pt mounts on the tiller. The mounts are about 1/2" thick with webing look real beefy but after it broke you could see the casting was crap I welded it I guess time will tell if that will hold might have to fabricate one. There is no slip clutch just shear bolts. I am thinking I should get a clutch now. Does anyone else have one of these. Mine is the 59" 39 tine. Chain drive. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thats what I have found with alot of the chinese stuff that I've bought. The metal is thick & looks to be strong but , the integrity of the metal is poor.

Hey Camanche,

Without a slip clutch to absorb the Severe Shock , that your Tiller just went through, You should be happy that your equipment broke and not your Transmission.

In the type of ground that you are working in, Thank Your Lucky Stars, and Go Get yourself a Slip Clutch. Next time, you may not be so lucky.

Try the Agri-Supply catalog page 24. Price is $61 or $62.50 depending on style.

It mounts on the tiller end of the pto shaft.

camanche, I would also recommend a Slip Clutch.

Couple of Tid Bits, be sure PTO Shaft is not to long after installation, Slip Clutch Adjustment is not to tight or to loose... this adjust does and can change and..... watch that Tractor ground speed.

Thanks for the replies. I finally got the manual for the tiller on saturday it has a full parts breakdown and I was supprised to see that the tiller is a full gear drive. Also the metal on the tiller itself appears to be better quality then the bolt on mount that broke. I doubt if the welding I did will hold after seeing the quality of the cast itself. I think the shaft will need to be cut after installation of a slip clutch. I was tilling kind of fast and deep becuse I was in my garden where I had tilled with a walk behind last year the rock I hit is very big and deep enough the walk behind did not see it. The tines look ok.
Any way thanks for the replies I will get the clutch and some new mounts just for peace of mind. :grin
