I have a 96 chevy silverado that the clock on the radio began staying on all the time. even when the keys are out of it door closed. I don't drive it that often it is used more as a farm truck so the battery drains down with this. what I have been doing is pulling the fuse for it and it goes off but of course I the clock goes out which is not a big deal just annoying. Any thoughts on what went bad in the circut. would it be in the radio or before that.

With that vintige truck, on the oem radio (I think) if you push the volume (maybe tuner?) knob the clock will show when everything is turned off. Maybe that switch is sticking, or the knob is jammed.

Just a thought.

Thats the only electrical problem you have had? Two of my sisters, one with a GMC Suburban and the other with a GMC Yukon both had electrical issues for the life of the vehicles. Wipers, battery drains for no apparent reason, door locks, windows, engine temporary shutdown the list is long. They were 94 and 95 vintage. I don't believe I have ever witnessed a vehicle line more plagued with electrical issues then those and that includes my 93 Ford F250.

OK, but then Ford built a cruise control that caused the truck to spontaneously combust.

(I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

The way electrical issues go with cars, I don't doubt it. I can't remember which car it was I had but the turn signal activated the horn all of the sudden for some reason. A friend had a Bel Air that would not let the wipers work if the high beams were on. My current Ford truck only lets me see what the RPM's are only when it gets to 2100 RPM and consequently causes my overdrive light to come on and blink right up to the point where I hit 2100 RPM then it stops doing that. I have a degree in electronics and am a licensed electrican and troubleshooting these things is a royal pain. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm ready for crank windows, mechanical RPM, no alarms, just on/off and go.

I can't help but I can add to the "me too" list. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I had a 92 Z71 that would not keep a bed light more than 60 seconds. It would also cook auto door lock modules on the passenger side within 10 uses.

My 96 chevy s10 with 4.3vortec did that once and it was a bad battery. I know it sounds crazy but i couldnt get it to start and everthing was on and wouldnt go off. I called someone that works on them and they told me my batterywasgoin bad. replaced the battery and it fixed it.
