The 2000 Chevy I'm driving makes a noise in the right front. Did it from new. Sounds like it is suspension related. Sometimes when the road is just the right "roughness", it sounds almost like a rattle. It occurs very predictably when stopping, especially on a hard or downhill stop. When I let off the brakes to pull out, it happens again. It seems like it could be coming from the antisway bar as it moves in the rubber bushings? The 90 Chevy I drove did the same thing. Garages were not able to help. Nothing is loose, and alignment is OK. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? Thanks.....................chim

Sounds like the brake caliper moving in the mount,or the pads moving. Take the caliper off ckeck the bolts and bubber bushings and make sure the pads are tight.

Do you have those chessy little factory fog lamps in the facia under the front bumper. I have them dog gone things on my Duramax and I hear them rattle. Check to make sure they are as tight as possible. Mine still rattle. Check to make sure your shocks are ok and tight as well. Dave

The other thing I have that rattles to no end is the fake plastic lug nuts on the centercap wheel covers. I hate those things. Dave

I confess. Yesterday was spent mostly getting seat time and the Chebby didn't get much attention. It did get a new battery. Without warning, it simply refused to start. One of the side terminals decided to disconnect itself from the juice. The top terminals tested fine, but the side terminals produced less than 1 volt under load.
The noise seems to happen as the suspension compresses or decompresses. When the nose goes down slightly like stopping on a downhill grade, then again when I let off the brakes. It is actually a series of sounds, much like the ones like a bare leg moving on a vinyl seat (truck fart?). It doesn't sound metallic. I did some searching on the 'net and found a message from a guy who solved a similar-sounding problem by spraying generous amounts of silicone into the rubber bushings on his antisway bar...........................chim

Our '89 chebby cavalier makes the bare leg on vinyl noise when you brake and then excellerate... except after a generous rain. It is some rubber part. I, too spray lots of silicone lube on anything that looks like rubber and it goes away for 6 months or so, then returns. Still can't figure out what it is, but think it is bushings in the sway arms.

In the service station 45 and more years ago, we had a "rubber lubricant" in a squirt can that we used on rubber bushings, but only if the customer wanted it used. Some cars never had that squeak, but if you ever started using that stuff you would have to keep on doing it at pretty regular intervals or the squeak came back. Sounds like some things haven't changed. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
