Cheap cylinder: What could I do with it?

I have an opportunity to buy a new 3.5x8 hydraulic cylinder for $30+. Seems too good to pass up, but I don't know what I would do with it.

What would you do?

I would get it for $30 and figure that out later. Heck for $30 I would just experiment with it and see what I could come up with.

Well the bore is fairly big but the stroke is about right for a back blade angle adjustment cylinder or a top n tilt.

The bore is a bit of overkill...but it should work for a tree shear...

I run 3.5x8 cylinders on the blade and landscape rake only because that is what I found at bargain price. I will say that the larger bore cylinders do slow down the motion to a reasonable speed without using restrictors. The same could be accomplished, however, with a smaller bore but longer stroke.

I have thought of making a brush puller that has a foot that sets on the ground and uses a hyd. cylinder to pull a chain straight up so that my little tractor could pull some small tree that are to big for it to pull as it is. Ed

I think 3.5 is about perfect for a hydraulic angle blade. Dont want to go too small on the bore or you will blow hoses. And the slow angling would be more of a benefit.

The stroke is a bit short, but you could put two grab hooks on the ends, and use it for a portable "come along" that could pull you out of the mud if you ever get stuck. You need a chain, and then another short chain with grab hooks to take up the slack you would gain with this cylinder. Cheaper than a tow truck. Easier than cranking on a come a long.

LOL, I obtained 2 like that some 20 years ago (2 for $25). A deal that could not be passed up you'll all agree.
They are still on my shelf waiting for a project.

If its really brand-new and unused, I'd sell it. Depending on tube and ends (welded, pin eye or clevis), they bring $70 - $140 on eBay. Start building up a PayPal surplus using eBay and then buy the things you really need. That fits in a USPS box and is under 70 lbs. Heck, maybe even a bubble mailer. Don't laugh. This is the new economy. Screw the IRS.
