Charging warning light comes on and off and having periodic starting problem

I have Kioti CK 30 HST 2007 tractor with approx. 160 hours. For last several months, the charging system warning light comes on and stays on. It goes off when the tractor is on for some time but it comes back on sporadically. The tractor cranks up fine, even with repeated cranking, so it seems the battery is fine.

Lately, my tractor frequently cranks but does not start for several cranks. If I take the key out, wait for a minute or so and then try, all of a sudden it starts on first crank turn. There is no regularity to when it starts right up or just keeps cranking. Battery is strong enough to keep cranking the engine.

I am wondering if the two problems are related? Never had starting problem. The charging light problem has been there for months. I was just ignoring it because i could not pin point the cause but obliviously the system was charging the system enough to keep the battery charged.

I am looking for advise on what I should do. Thanks for your help.

I have a 2008 CK35 with 300 hours. A few months back I had to tighten the fan belt. Will not hurt to check it to make sure it is tight.

Last year I bought a DK45 and at about 35 hours had same sort of problem. The ignition switch was bad, fixed under warranty.

A number of guys have posted problems with the ignition switch in various models. When it acts up, all sorts of electrical problems can pop up. Usually water or melted snow is the culprit. Some have posted cleaning the switch solved their problem but I guess it depends on how corroded the contacts may be. This was my answer to keep the switch clean and so far so good.

Found a rubber chair leg cap at the local lowes store. Cut a slit in the top for the key to slide in, cut it shorter, and it partially goes over the key switch lockdown ring.

My tractor has been stored indoors. No visible signs of corrosion. If switch is bad, would the engin crank? pardon my ignorance but is there something in the switch that allows it to crank but not start?

Just thinking since it is an intermitant problem that maybe its a loose wire connection , possibly a ground . When its not firing get a volt meter and check your fuel solenoid for voltage . My dk40 has a distinctive click of the fuel solenoid when the ignition sw is turned to the run position .

Sounds like grounding problem, or maybe an intermittent connector. I'd pull the connectors apart and treat with dielectric grease just as a precaution/good practice. What about your seat switch?

I think you got it. I also noticed that when my tractor starts right up, I hear a click before that. Other times I do not recall hearing that. I have been just taking the key out and reinserting it and within a few tries, it starts right up.

What's the best way for me to fix this? Where would the soliniod be located ( generally I mean). Do I need to take the dash apart to get to the ignition switch wiring including the ground wire? Does fuel Solinoid pumps fuel when engin is being cranked to complete the ignition circuit?

I do not know if there is a seat switch? should there be one?
