Changing Hyd. Oil Filter-L4300

Reviewing the L4300 manual, I notice that the first step for changing the hydraulic oil filter is to drain all the transmission oil; over 10 gallons. If you're going to be CHANGING the transmission oil (400 hrs.), that's fine; but if it's only a filter change (200 hrs.) the 10 gallons plus of drained oil has to go back in the tractor. Seems like there's a good chance for oil contamination.

Is it necessary to drain the tranny prior to changing the filter? If you don't drain, will the transmission oil run out of the filter fitting until you get the new filter on? Does it make sense to accept the fluid loss during the change and then top off afterwards?

I know on my L2800 it is a gusher running out of the filter boss. I would bet you would get a little wet/oily. I would say you better be quick.
