I was all set to get the Tigercat this week but decided to give Lynn Hendrix out in TX a call and he has what I consider the perfect setup for me. It is the Prentice 2470 that he builds with all of his upgrades and a brand new FAE head. The new head has the two speed motors in it. Remember how I raved about the two speed motors in the Rayco C100. The Prentice will be giving up 55 horsepower to the Tigercat but it also weighs about 10k lbs less. I think that with the two speed motors and the FAE head on the Prentice it will be mulching just as fast as the Tigercat while being easier to move and burning less fuel. Not to mention the new machine will have the security of a warranty and 0 hours on it. After all of my research and travel I am right back where I started in May...except I will have two speed motors in my head.

The pictures are the machine with the Fecon BH-120. I ran this machine and it does a good job, I cannot wait to get my new one with the FAE!

I ran a Hydro-ax 411 with the fae mulcher head for about 2 months this summer.* Do you know how the Tigercat would compair to the Hydro-ax performance wise?* I was thinking of buying a tired machine in the near future but with this economy?**

The Tigercat should outperform the 411-Ax. The Tigercat is carrying a BH-250 which is a very big head and has a 245 horse Cummins. I also think that it is a larger displacement engine so your torque numbers will be better. I am writing off of the top of my head but I am pretty sure I got it right.

All of these brush cutting machines are fascinating. In some plants they are ideal while in others they are a menace.

I watched a "Hydro Axe" chew through acres and acres of juvenile mesquite a few years ago and do one **** of a job of physically opening up an overgrown pasture. But, now, it's all overgrown as worse, if not more, than when that job was done. Morale? Control.

Mesquite is very resilient you have to chemicallly treat the stump to kill it or you will just make it very angry. Mulching is still a great way to remove the top growth but it is not the end all be all for some invasive species you have to use ut in conjunction with other control methods.
