Chains and Binder Storage

I'm wondering how everyone stores their chains and binders when not in use. I don't mean locking them away in the shed, but on the trailer either hanging or in a tool box. I'm pulling a 25' gooseneck and would like to incorporate storage with the trailer. If anyone has any pictures of how they do it, I would appreciate if you could post these. Thanks.

Im probaly gonna get a good scolding here, but I just haul em on the decks of my trailers. Binders go on bottom with chains piled on top. Never have lost one or even had to stop to keep one from coming off. My trips are usually short, less than 25 miles, and on very rough and bumpy country roads.

I put them in a pail and leave it on the deck of the trailer. They can not slide out because the trailers got sides.

I used a chain rack I built similar to the one in the pic., except they hung on the inside of the neck facing back of truck, rest of the chain was in tray at bottom of neck. had a fold over piece of metal that I could pad lock. That worked until I was in Houston one night, out of hours and got a room. Next morning chains/binders gone. I bought a 48" under bed tool box, mounted in trailer in front of the front axle. Inside the box about 3/4 way up I welded flatbar the length of the box. Thats what I hung my hooks on, rest of chain laid in bottom of box. Binders same way with 1 hook hanging on flatbar at other end of box. Trick is to pull last chain put in, gets pulled out first, no tangled mess that way. Chains/binders out of site out of mind was my theory. No pics of the box, but it worked good.

One of my trailers has a mesh tray built into the front V indoor the rails. Chains go in there. The other one has no mesh, chains go in the bed of the truck then. A couple weeks ago I put a 36" box on the side of my truck so hopefully nothing is in view of someone who wants my stuff more than I do.

We've always had custome diamond plate boxes made that were lockable between the bed of the trailer and the jack. We've even cut out a small section to feed wire rope through and use a winch to pull dead cars onto etc. This way everything is locked up.

Initially I wanted to hang my stuff as CaseGuy shows, but concerned about someone wanting to steal all of it, so unless I can figure a way to make it secure, I will likely go with a lockable underdeck storage box. The only thing with that is I'd like to hang my ratcheting binders so will likely need to weld some steel inside to attach the binders to. The chain can be layed down, or put in plastic containers to keep organized. Well, thanks for the tips, if anyone has any photos of their tool boxes for binder storage, I would love to see them. Thanks.

For the longest time I used a weather resistant ribbed poly box to store my chains, binders, and straps right on the trailer. Overall dimensons are about 15" x 30 and it was centered on the deck right behind my front rail. I found that spot convienient and easy to get to and the box didnt get in my way. Has a key lock, and a deep removable tray too. Have had it about 12 years now. Cant remember where I bought it and I cant see a name on it either. Maybe from an auto parts store. But the unique thing about it is that it is a no tool attachment system that leaves only two thin rails screwed to the deck after you detach it by turning 4 handles on inside of the box. Chains in the bottom, binders and straps laid on top of that, clevis and hooks in the tray. I covered thousands of road miles with that box and never gave a hint of coming loose on me either. Its off the trailer right now because been using it for a job box for my tools

I don't have a good photo, but I bought a 4ft long aluminum side mount tool box off of craigslist and mounted it on the front of my trailer, across the frame. Works for me!!
