Got a bigger tractor and wondered if I was careful if I could use the cat.1 on my bigger tractor?

Didn't we recently go through this?
I say it depends on the size of the tractor (M9000 right?) and the gauge of the implements and what type and what you'll do with them.

According to most folks, the smaller cat. I implements will be destroyed if you use too much HP with them. Probably most ground engaging implements won't take all the HP.

I suggest that some implements can be used, with the bushings to convert to cat. I as long as you're careful to go slowly in case you hit something in the ground.

PTO equipment will probably work okay, but I imagine you'll have to lengthen the shafts, and you "may" have a problem with horizontal spacing between the arms and attachment pins.

Does tractor have that capacity? I have seperate toplink and check chain positions for each Cat on mine. Otherwise, there may be a trajectory problem even if you use bushings.
I'd trade or sell the implements for bigger ones anyway. The whole idea of a bigger tractor is to cover more ground or you're just wasting fuel.

Here's what I've figured out after 30 some odd years with both a CAT I and a CAT II tractor on hand at the same time, sharing many implements.

It will work MOST of the time. Some implements lend themselves to being used on a bigger or smaller tractor than others. Has a lot to do with their design.

Buy the very best CAT I implements. When using "smaller" CAT I implements on a higher HP tractor than intended, you need top-shelf stuff. Don't expect the cheapest of box blades to handle what one 3 times the price will. Higher HP will destroy soil engaging equipment, PTO equipment, even the simplest of tools take a thrashing. Higher HP usually means higher weight (of the tractor) too. That equals greater traction. That equals more load on the tool hooked to that tractor.
Understand when "too much" is too much. You can always "scale back" on what you're putting an implement through. Don't expect that box blade to bury itself in hard ground just because it will. Take smaller bites.

I've had several tractors that were "just barely" CAT II tractors. (around 60 to 65 HP) Of course, they were easier to deal with CAT I implements than a tractor at the upper end of the CAT II scale. (100 HP)

Yep. It'll work, just don't be shocked when that CAT I rear blade folds up like a tent when you start pushing the same thing you always pushed with a CAT I tractor.

Last year we moved from a Cat 1 to a Cat 2 tractor (L3250 to a M6800). As has been mentioned, the M6800 is on the lower end of Cat 2 tractors. Still, I managed to break the lower arm of the 3 pt hitch on our small boxblade at idle by catching a hidden stump. After welding it back up, I preztled that thing within a couple days. Too much tractor.

Our 8 ft disk does fine with the M6800, as does the drag harrow (10'), and sprayer. However, we've upgraded the brushcutter, and are looking at replacing other equipment as money allows. Until then, we'll put some bushings on the Cat 1 stuff and soldier on.

Cliff notes: You can use Cat 1 on Cat 2 tractors, but be prepared for some breakage of ground engaging equipment.

buy a set of bushings, few bucks. I have 2 tractors, cat 1 and a cat 2 which both share implements...most of them at least. I use the bushings on the cat 2 to downsize it to a 1. Also, they make a really nice telescoping arms with a ball that rotates around from cat 1, spin around and it's a cat 2. JD has those arms. not sure of a aftermarket

I am in the market to upgrade to a larger tractor. I might purchase a Kubota L5030 (around 43 pto hp). It is advertised as cat I and II. I believe it is simply cat I holes with bushings used to convert. I will be upgrading all implements as I now only have a BX series tractor. My thoughts have been on buying med to heavy duty implements, whether cat I or II. Any advice on comparisons in the cat I and II implements? For instance, would a heavy duty cat I = a med duty cat II or some other convenient conversion? That would make it easier to shop! I realize it probably isn't that easy, but appreciate any and all opinions!

Thanks, Terry
