Any one here know anything about the old Case VAC? 3ph, live pto, live hydro? How much power? Wide,or narrow front? Any thing else? I see a lot of these for sale REAL cheep. Will they brush hog? Thanks.

Case had what they called an eagle hitch on some of the VAC's. It wasn't a 3pt but could be adapted fairly easy. They came with either wide or narrow fronts so each tractor is different. Power wise it is only 17-21 Belt hp which is roughly the same as pto hp so a 4'-5' brush chopper would be about it. Other than that the reason they are so cheap is because the collectors market hasn't picked up on collecting Case tractors yet. I use to have a VA which is basicly the same as a VAC just different options. Nice little tractor but never used it for anything except to resell.

Thanks. Sounds a little weak for what I need. The search continues..................................

You could do like a guy in Ringwood Illinois did back in the middle sixties......put a Shev-Lay 235 cu. in. six in his VA Case. That solved the power problem. heh heh heh.. Actually, there ARE times when re-powering makes sense. For example if you have a low-draft but high PTO HP requirement, that would be when you might want a LITTLE, more nimble tractor, but with a BIG engine.

There is nothing that looks as cool as the valve covers of a big V8 sicking out on each side of a narrow tractor hood with chrome exhaust collectors and twin stacks. Yes!!!!!

Think a GM 455 would fit?
I have two engines in the garage and am talking to a couple of guys on tractors.

Several years ago; when I was still running an agricultural pump and irrigation business in CA; there was an outfit from greenfield CA that dug sugar beets for many of the local beet growers. They had a big power shift John Deere with an 8V-71 Detroit Diesel engine in it. They bought this tractor new and had John Deere send it directly to an outfit in Illinois somewhere that did custom re-powering of tractors. The John Deere was specially designed to run a PTO beet digger which in and of itself required 70 shaft HP. By re-powering the tractor it was possible to keep the physical size of the tractor small enough to fit in front of the beet digger and not block out the trucks and trailers that drove alongside taking the beets off the conveyor. This tractor already had a slew of hours on it when I noticed it, and the only failure they ever had was when they tried to use it to pull a stuck rig out and twisted the center out of the master clutch plate. .....Dave
