Case Ih Farmall 40b buying advice

I am looking at a basically new Case IH 40b with cab and CVT trans. with only 30 hours

Does anyone here have experience with this tractor that could provide input.
How is the CVT?
Any issues?


Based on some of the video I saw of this tractor and its New Holland counterpart, they look like nice tractors. One concern I have is with the speed of the hydraulics. The loader looks like it operates slow compared to others.

Based on what I've read about the small Case/NH CVT tractors, they are nothing but trouble.

I read about some CVT issues on this site, but I contacted the service department at two large CASE IH dealers and they have not seen any issues with the CVT. So, it makes me wonder if they are all troublesome.

Obviously they aren't all breaking down, but given the number of people that have issues and how few of them are in circulation, your odds are much better with a hydrostatic.

I played on one of them with the CVT transmission. It was interesting. Not bad to operate, and if I was choosing between a gear shuttle or the CVT, I would most likely choose the CVT. However, like the others have already mentioned, I have read about nothing but problems or electronic gremlins with that transmission... Even safety issues with the way the electronics take control of that machine.

Also, when you begin comparing that tractor side by side with other tractors in its class, you will start to notice things that don't stack up well to the competition, including a tiny front axle, short wheelbase, & a loader that is weaker then every other loader from other manufacturers in this segment.

My impressions of those machines left me very underwhelmed, and in my opinion there are many better options available out there to choose from.

TractorData.com is the closest, but it does have some mistakes, and omissions. It won't let you select models and compare them directly, but does have a lot of specs listed.

Also, I don't think the machine is actually a CaseIH Farmall 40B because that model was made by LS, and was not offered with a CVT transmission. I think you might have looked at a Farmall 40 with CVT.
