Case DX55
Im ready to do my coolant change and after doing some reading, i can't tell what in the HECK im supposed to put in this thing for coolant type. I bought some regular extended life prestone from teh automotive dept at wal mart, but after reading, im worried this is not what came in it or what should go back when i drain it. My tractor is a 2004 model.

The manual makes no mention whatsoever of coolant type, make, model, specs...NOTHING. So, i assume it is what it is...any old green coolant at 50/50 mix. The manual only states 'permanent type'.

What am i supposed to use?

Well, i called three case dealers and one new holland dealer and all of them said it did not matter what kind of antifreeze you put in it...cast iron block...etc, etc.

So, i put 50/50 Peak Global Lifetime.

2.1 gallons out....1.9 gallons in....i don't know, you tell me. Guess there was some left over DI water in it from when i flushed it. Thatll make it less than 50/50, but that shouldnt matter at all.

You shouldn't have any problems if you do NOT have replacable piston sleeves. If you had removable/replaceable sleaves you should use low silicate anti-freeze made for diesels....due to potential cavitation on the sleaves. If you do not have removeable sleeves...ie. your pistons fit right down in the block itself...use whatever as the block is much thicker than the sleeves..not sure if you understand what I'm saying, but the real problems is bubbles on the side of the sleaves. Agford -- You will tend to annoy the mods if you post the same question in 2 forums. I know it gets a little frustrating waiting for an answer sometimes, but that's why this forum is so busy -- everyone posts here it seems. Especially with a question like this that isn't too brand specific but could apply to a lot of machines.

Yeah, i figured. One can be deleted if it needs to be. I posted in the case section and then got to thinking this board would be more appropriate.:)

I almost made the mistake of using a car type antifreeze in my New Holland TN70A. Make sure your coolant is designed for diesel tractors. I got mine at the local case dealer.

Its just regular car antifreeze. the case dealers all say thats all thats needed. Plus, they sell it in the store?? I can't imagine them selling car antifreeze and recommending it for a diesel engine if it was not right.

Yeah, i called and checked again with another case dealer, they say any old 50/50 car type antifreeze over the counter is what it needs. I specifically asked about diesel engine additives and specs and they specifically said it is not needed.

As long as the antifreeze says for diesel engines on the side of the container, than all is good. Apprarently cavitation can be a an issue. I must admit, I am no expert!
