case 885xl 1991

I have a 1991 case 885xl and it wont come out of four wheel drive. the valve (solenoid) in the gear transfer is working. is it possible for the gears to get siezed. Is it a major job to take gear transfer apart or does any one have any suggestions what I could try to get four wheel drive working
