Its come to my attention that the Case 580 Super D I just bought is down on hydraulic power. I had a really hard time digging a small rotten stump out. If you start pulling the boom back, and then try to swing the dipper back, the boom loses all power and everything crashes to the ground.

I'm assuming I need a new hydraulic pump, but I saw some procedures in the service manual about checking and setting some hydraulic pressures. Is it possible that I need some simple adjustments, or is the pump most likely gone.

Do the pumps get replaced, or are they rebuildable? Anyone up to speed on the complexity of the gage setup required to to adjust the various relief valves?
