Here is the completed engine assembly. I was going to do the rebuild myself and post more photos, but for an additional $400 bucks the shop did the assembly, and they warranty their work. I couldn't pass on that.

While the engine was in the shop. I moved the back half of the tractor into the garage so I could start to clean this nasty, dirty torque tube. Here is the machine prior to clean up.

I used a pneumatic needle paint chipper/de-scaler. These things work great. They get into all the tight spots and clean them right up. I degreased the area and applied primer.

Then it was time to clean up the clutch parts and the fly wheel. The new parts engine I purchased came with a flywheel, clutch plate and pressure plate that were like new compared to my original ones. These were bead blasted at the engine shop, so they are ready for paint.

This was the point that I hung the engine on the tractor. I had a little trouble getting them together because of some edges that I had to file down on the main shaft spline's. So the engine was all bolted up. I didn't take a photo at this stage.

Then it was time to clean up this mess. The front end was filthy. Caked in dirt and oil. The 1" drain holes were plugged solid it took some time but I cleaned it up pretty well. I was going to bolt it up and use it as is for a while, with plans to tare it down in the future but my father talked me into just doing it now. So I tore down the front end.

Here are some of the front end parts removed and cleaned. I used the needle chipper again on these parts. Man the chipper works great.

My father Joe has been a huge help with this project he cleaned this front casting to get it ready for painting. This was a tough job. After needle chipping the paint away and a ton of degreasing it was finally ready for paint.

Then they were orange! I found that rustolium chevy orange engine paint is almost exactly the same as flambeau red. So I'm using chevy orange.

The shafts and bushings were way too worn to use as they were. So I bored the holes to restore roundness and turned new bushings and shafts. The shaft is stainless steel from a boat we had worked on. It ended up even better than I thought it would.

I made new parts for the spindles also. The photos look like they are different colors, it's just with and without a flash. The flash brings out the orange.

The front end was reassembled and installed onto the tractor. There has been a ton of hardware to clean or replace.

Moved the tractor to my fathers shop, this is where I have my machining equipment. Didn't do much work (if any) on it this summer working on it a lot after the move. Cleaned up the fuel tank, radiator, dash etc. and have most of it back together. Getting ready to fire it up.

Got it running two days ago. It's been about a year and I'm excited to have it running. It sounds great.

I've started on the sheet metal, the dash had a rust hole that I just fixed. Here is the hole prior to repair.
