case 310 dozer
I have a case 310 dozer with a manual 3 speed transmission that keeps coming out of gear , naturally its the lower gear , what do I need to do to fix this problem ? whats the procedure to remove or trouble shoot this issue ? i have looked but have failed to find a exploded view of this , from what i saw the transmission and differential are all together , i need help or guidance to get this repaired and am willing to tear it apart to save from taking it to a equipment repair shop

The first thing i would check is the linkage to the shift. Take all covers off so you can see all of it move, then put it in low and where it moves the part on the transmission case, put your hand on it and see if you can push it "further" into gear. You may feel it snap into place better. If so then you may be able to just adjust the problem out. Good luck.

Hopefully this link will work, and show you an exploded view of your transmision: Official Case Construction Equipment Online Parts Store and Parts Look Up. Parts for Case Equipment and Construction Equipment. Parts Store for Case Wheel Loaders, Case Excavators, Case Skid Steers, Case Original Parts.

Could be a number of things, but I'd check the shifter ball for wear. Maybe not be moving the fork far enough to catch the detent. Or, weak spring on the detent, bent shifting fork, etc.

I was thinking this transmission was like the one on my 310B hoe, where the shift forks are held in place by spring/roll pins, but it's not.

At least maybe this will help, just seeing what it looks like on the inside.

I would not take it to a shop unless they have a lot of room for it to set and are patient.
Mosty importantly 1 st gear does all the work forward and reverse. Those were great machines but that gear is worn out.
First step find a parts transmission or a good gear. to remove it take the tracks off and remove the differential out the back. Several years probably 20 I bought a used 310 G for 5000 and immedialely had that problem. Then I paid 2400 for a complete used transmission differential. I ran it and then used parts from the two for a while longer. Then sold the dozer.
