Carving a Valentine for Steph

I got this idea to carve Steph a Valentine, so I looked through my wood pile and found a nice piece of 9 inch wide cedar. I cut two pieces to a foot in length. Then I drew a heart on it and put our initials in the middle with a fancy L.

I cut out the wood that wasn't supposed to be there to leave the letters and shape of the heart. I also cut the other piece to the shape and size of the heart, but smaller. It will add depth to the heart when it's done.

After carving and sanding the letters, I glued the two pieces together. In the morning, I'll start carving and sanding some more.

Eddie do you remeber telling us about your tendency to need soemthing and instead of buying it, your tendency s to think, "Oh heck i coudl jsut build that myself' So i guess that tendency includes Valentines then doesnt it?

All I can say is she better hang on to you becasue she will never find another one like you.

She's probably already seen it, unless Eddie told her the computer broke or something. Neat idea. Store up them "points". When my wife and I were dating, I mailed her a brick. Wrote on it like a postcard, had to have it weighed at post office for correct postage, and they had to hand cancel the stamps. My mother in law thought that was the most romantic thing she had ever heard of.

Have you thought about backing it with a mirror? Not sure if it is large enough, but somehow, the picture in my mind of the two of you looking into / at it together and seeing yourselves in the mirror would be appealing.

Nice work, I hung around with a master carver for a bit and that's what he always said, get the picture in my mind, and take out all the wood that was not supposed to be there.

Here we go again . I really didn't mind feeling inadequate when I read the 90 pages about creating a lake, but now the feeling has spread to my romantic capabilities!

Seriously, that is very nice Eddie. You and Steph are fortunate to have the love for one another that even this relative newbie can see through these pages. Now I have to go deal with Valentine's Day on the 14th and Sandi's birthday on the 17th .
